Windows XP won't recognize hard drive

My fresh install of Windows XP will not recognize the hard drive in my 3000 N200. When I install Vista it goes right on. I performed a complete wipe of the hard drive before trying this and I have tried it 5 times getting the same error message each time. Windows can't find a hard drive.

Re: Windows XP won't recognize hard drive

You have to go into the bios and disable the SCSI interface and set it to IDE. Windows XP doesnt come with prepackaged SCSI drivers. Had the same problem on my n200.

Re: Windows XP won't recognize hard drive

You will not get anywhere with that, because it is not about SCSI, its about SATA drive controller being

enabled or disabled in BIOS. For XP, which does not have SATA-AHCI drivers. You have to set this BIOS

option to IDE mode.

Re: Windows XP won't recognize hard drive

Thanks for the further info. I realized this after I got into the Bios. I appreciate the help with this problem. I am going to wipe this drive again this coming weekend and will post how every thing works out.
