lenovo n580 keeps freezing and won't turn on

I have a Lenovo N580 laptop for the last 18 months and months three months ago it has started to freeze up on me or wont turn on. When I try to turn it on I can hear the cd drive starting up but the screen remains off. After a few tries it sometimes comes on but then it will suddenly freeze up on me and I'll have to start the process over again.

I've tried to reset my laptop back to its original factory settings but that didn't help. I've also tried to unplug the battery and ac adapter and hold the power button but that didn't help either.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: lenovo n580 keeps freezing and won't turn on

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Try clearing the CMOS again, but follow this procedure.....

1. Unplug the charger / adapter.
2. Remove the battery.
3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds.
4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If that didn't resolve the problem then It sounds like you have a hardware problem that is prevent the system from booting up.  Since the machine will occasionally freeze up I would suggest you check the hard drive's health.  Try downloading and installing HD Tune which will check the drive's health status.

Re: lenovo n580 keeps freezing and won't turn on

Thanks for the advice,

I tried the first solution but that didn't work so I downloaded the program you recommended and I found out my hard drive was in bad shape so I decided to purchase another one. Unfortunately I'm still having the same issues with the new hard drive so it looks like that may not be the case. Now I gotta see if I can return this hard drive (sucks).

Not sure what else the problem could be.

Re: lenovo n580 keeps freezing and won't turn on

When you installed the new hard drive did you try clearing the CMOS again after the drive was installed ?

Re: lenovo n580 keeps freezing and won't turn on

If the problem still occurs with the new hard drive then I would start looking at other hardware items that might be preventing a successful boot or operation of Windows.  Try removing the optical drive and see what happens.  If you have more than one memory module try them one at a time and one at a time in each slot.  Try removing the wifi card and so on.  Do the hardware removal one item at a time. After each hardware change clear the CMOS as well and try booting up.
