Most Innovative? Lenovo U1 or Skylight?

2010-01-06, 21:53 PM

CES 2010 sure looks like the place to be right now!   The number of videos of the skylight and ultra innovative U1 seem to be multiplying like rabbits right now - a sure sign that these systems are sparking interest.

Personally, I'm really excited by the prospect of these two systems as they are certainly innovative and are introducing some design excitement...

Which of these two systems do you think is going to be more of a game changer in the PC industry over the next 6 to 12 months?

Be sure to Check out Matt Kohut's Inside the Box blog post for more details on the U1

Engadget hands-on and impressions:

My vote for Most Innovative goes to the U1 -- I certainly wouldn't have expected this. (But I'm a stodgy old-school ThinkPad guy.)

I'll take issue with the video narrator's worry that the Skylight's "reliance on the Linux operating system could prove a handicap among consumers." Well, sure it I suppose it could... But really, for web-surfing, email, social networking, and cloud computing purposes that are netbooks' raison d'etre, I don't see any practical difference among modern OSes. Linux, Win 7 / XP, OS X, Chrome (I think!), etc. all run Firefox and Thunderbird just the same. Linux has the advantage that you can run the full-fledged OS, not some crippled down-market version designed to keep netbooks less capable than their more-powerful notebook brethren. So although I think the U1 is the more innovative product, I personally hope that pre-installed Linux as on the Skylight will become more common. Oh, and I want the rubberized palmrest for my ThinkPad. :smileyhappy:
