Breaking news from CES

2011-01-07, 3:05 AM

Hi all,

just an hour ago Xavier Lanier from notebooks.com presents Lenovo with its first award of CES 2011.

The ThinkPad X120e won "Best of CES" for the ultraportable business laptop category. Lenovo's Ray Gorman emcees with considerable style while Chief Marketing Officer David Roman graciously accepts.

If you would like to learn more about it check out the product tour:

and a hands on picture taken by me today, it´s touch and feel is really nice!

If you have any questions about the new X120e, please ask.

Re: Breaking news from CES

I left a question about the x100e in another post here, before seeing this one.

http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-CES-2011/Lenovo-ThinkPad-X120e-wins-2011-CES-Best-in-Show-Ultraportable/m-p/350743#M26

-I was wondering if you tested the x100e, but the answer is clear now-

but here is my main question:

I would like to know how hot does the bottom get when runnig apps and/or videos.

The X100e (double core) has a severe overheat problem (reported in many different forums and reviews). For example, can you comfortable work on your lap with it for 20 minutes or it gets too hot? The X120e has solved the overheating issue?

thanks in advance for any report back.

larango,

I think we may need to see how real world results get reported - reviews and customer experiences to fully answer that.

I will say that we are paying attention to the thermal characteristics of these small form factor, ultra portable systems, and that there are newer BIOS versions either available on the web now, or that will be shortly, that will benefit the X100e in this regard.

Thanks!

Mark

When is the x120e coming out? Because I was going to buy a x100e for school but I may hold out now for the x120e.

I'm in the US. I need a netbook for school and was going for the x100e. But if the x120e is better and the same price I may be able to wait till it  comes out. My T410 is just too big to pack to school everyday like I did last semester. Especially with textbooks. Thinkpad is the best and I don't want some cheap Dell or Acer.

It should be worth the wait.  New generation of CPU.

New AMD processors have TDP in the 7-9 W range. Older ones were in the 18+ W range. Lower TDP typically means longer battery life and less heat generation. My wife has Lenovo Edge 13 and loves it (except for screen dimming on battery mode ... which you could change). My ASUS 1000H is starting to show signs of wear and tear. Looking at X120e as replacement. It would be nice if there was a docking station similar to Thinkpad X200+ series (charging station and DVD-RW player).

Hi rmc,

the new X120e will run 10% cooler and will have 33% more battery life than previous models. :-)

You will get 65% faster graphics and 40% more cpu power.

But one the other hand the previous model was also very fine. I bought one for my girl friend in red.
