Re: T420S? can't wait for it? when?!

The Lenovo guy that visited us said, that the rapidDrive will be about 4GB, so maybe this is true. And sad. But the mSATA from Intel are 40 and 80GB, thats for sure. So maybe the 4GB is just some cheap stuff for the low end, i dunno.

Concerning power adapters: I have both too. The discrete T400s charges fast with the 65W adapter, and my old T60p also runs fine with it, but i did not check it thoroughly. It's just that we have both adapters at home, and by accidenr mix the rods without having any problem yet. But i guess that 65W is a bit too low for heavy work and charging simultaneously.

oh yes, the ultraslim is very nice. But the entire charge we have in our institute makes a whine noise that can drive you crazy. They are only good for owners of a  T400s, that whine louder;-)

I looked at the Ultraslim before, and I like its size, but it always struck me as such a hodge podge of adapters, cables, converters, splitters and tips (losable, breakable clutter). On the upside, it includes a car / plane adapter. Do you have one? Would you recommend it?

In terms of weight, the page says it's 19% lighter than the standard 90 watt adapter (which is 360g), but then says its weight is 400g later down the page. 19% lighter would make it less than than 300g. But at 260g, the standard 65 watt adapter is still lighter.

Having said that, if I add a small bottle of water to my bag, that's 500g right there!

I have the previous version of the ultraslim travel adapter (the one without all of the extra adaptors and converters), so I can only speak about it. It may actually be heavier than the other adaptors (the power brick is quite dense), but in terms of form factor, it fits much more easily in my notebook bag because it is flat. I'll take the extra weight for the nicer shape.

Optimus is only available with the Core i7? And all those models are without fingerprint reader?

I don't get their strategy. Do you?

Hey Q-Ball, thanks for the alert!

But, what? My first impressions:
- The two offers differ only by 2 vs. 4 GB RAM which is $130 (OK, the win7 Version is different as well...)
- Together with the free 4GB upgrade (and a larger HDD) as advertised on the page, this is pretty ridiculous
- They give an initial discount of over 30%
- the T420s is cheaper (initially) than the T410s?

what the...?

best

Does anybody know what happened to the Depot Warranty? I just priced out a T420s, and the only warranty option available is the 3 yr priority onsite + 3 year thinkpad protection. I don't have a need for next-day service (since I always have a spare system around), so I like to save some money with the depot + 3 year thinkpad protection. Anybody know if it's still available if I call in?

I will answer my own question. Set up your system as you want it, convert to a quote instead of checking out, call and talk to a rep and they can add whatever warranty options you want. It was nearly a $200 difference between the only online option (3 year priority onsite + TPP) and the 3 year depot + 3 year TPP.
