Re: T420S? can't wait for it? when?!

I'm actually OK with 16:9 as long as it's high-enoguh resolution.

I believe "HD+" usually means 1600x900. Those of you complaining about 16:9 are being kind of silly if that's the case, since an "HD+" display at 1600x900 has the same vertical resolution as the current 16:10 WSXGA (1440x900) display available on the T410/T410s.

If it's really 1600x900 then you're not giving up any vertical resolution and you're getting more horizontal resolution. I can't really argue with that.

On the other hand if the display is 1366x768 that would be very unfortunate. I hate the fact that manufacturers are putting such displays on 14" and larger laptops, because they're really a step down from my T400's 1440x900 or even my T61 (same resolution).

If it's really a 420m re-branded than that's not bad. Remember that the T4xx series is not really intended as a gaming machine so Lenovo is going to focus on keeping heat/power low.

The 420m is still plenty to play games like WoW or StarCraft II with good detail settings. If you want better performance than that you really need to be looking at the W series or a true gaming laptop. Or a desktop for that matter.

Also keep in mind that Sandy Bridge has much better graphics performance (more than 2x the previous generation). Even on my Sandy Bridge desktop CPU (i7-2600) which is a 6EU part (the laptops have 12EU graphics which are almost 2x as fast) it's enough to play WoW and StarCraft II with low detail settings, which is more than you can say for the previous generation.

Is the audio of the T420s better and louder than the previous generations T400, T400s, T410, T410s or T410i. What sound card are Lenovo implementing on the new T420s? Does it have Dolby Home Theater or other sound technology that enhance the sound?

Please include a high-quality display. During the last couple of years the quality has degraded and no higher quality upgrade (like IPS) was available. Since many tablet now use an IPS-screen, it may be feasible to offer these again. Thanks for your great products!

I finally got a chance to look at a preproduction Optimus system and look at the Windows Experience score.  Keep in mind that this is preliminary with not final hardware and not final drivers.

6.4

In response to another question, the audio system is improved.  I think they are getting Dolby certification for these systems, but I haven't been able to verify 100%.

That is an awesome number as it brings the T520 on par with the W510. Will the T520 have two our four DIMM-slots?

Can anyone confirm whether the screen quality is better on the t420s than previous models?

Im not fussed on resolution but I really want a nice quality display.

A lot of Lenovo thinkpad reviews have commented on this and I would hope Lenovo has listened.

Perhaps redundant with earlier posts, but worth repeating: Battery Life (coast to coast text editing and email, please!) and quiet operation (no fan whine) are high priorities for me.

Please note that I skipped the T410S ( between my brother and me I think we have about eight or so 14" T laptops of various ages T2x, T3x, T4x, my current T400s, you name it I think we have almost all) because of the slice battery incompatibility. That solves dhs' problem too and yet keeps the weight light. I skipped the T6x series and went with a Panasonic CF-Y5 for a while -- that bad boy has a battery life of my dreams. Honestly, the T400s is a disappointment compared to that.
