Hi Puppy,

Sorry that you don't like the return of the TrackPoint buttons.

Many in the community lobbied for their return, and Lenovo responded :smileyhappy:!

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.

It is not the case. There are still other missing features (post .20 series) that have not returned yet again :smileysad: Note the press release link in the first post refer to ThinkPad .50 series as well.

Ah OK, so you DO like the return of the TrackPoint buttons :smileyhappy:!

What other features do you think are missing?

Being one of the BIG apostles of the first X1 carbon and made a big fuss about the lack of trackpoint buttons and the adaptive keyboard on gen 2 thank you! No hate is deserved on a day like this lenovo. I have lived with a macbook pro 13" for a while now through work and I sure miss the ol' trackpoint not to mention the smooth comfortable surface and the keyboard compared to the macbook pro that's got these razor sharp edges at your palms. Maybe it was healthy to skip a generation X1 carbon for me, who knows? I will be buying the new X1 carbon and this time hopefully not return it like gen 2. Really like that you now stay true to what makes the X1 carbon in my opinion the best laptop on the market when it comes to linux support (everything just works inkl fan control all LED controls etc and hopefully I can just copy over my hardened Gentoo system directly on the new carbon without much need to reconfigure much), security with tpm, always on connectivity with the 4G modules, and the rapid charge is such an awesome bonus. X1 carbon is still not for everyone though (but it was never meant to be), but at least it is back to be a very very very good, if not the best option for serious programmers and business people and security nerds like myself who move around a lot in the job. This new generations X1 carbon is everything I hoped the gen 2 would be. So again, thank you for listening and perhaps enduring my long posts of criticism of the gen 2 X1 carbon.

Re: The Buttons are back - the new X1 Carbon

I've had one for a few weeks now, and it is glorious! More later.

I've had a preproduction unit since before Christmas. It is a lovely machine. This is the first thing that I've seen that can replace my beloved X301.

The keyboard feel is excellent, the build is solid, and the touch screen is bright and clear. The return of the TrackPoint buttons is a win for users. Wish it still had indicator lights for those WHAT ARE YOU DOING moments, and I could use a little more space between the function key blocks. And I'll never stop loving the old 7-row keyboard. But overall this is a return to ThinkPad excellence.
