Re: The new ThinkPad Yoga

2015-02-10, 19:10 PM

Hello. This is probably a very stupid question but I want to be 100% certain.

It's my understand that the Active Pen (Wacom's new digitiser tech) isn't included as standard with the Thinkpad Yoga 15. Similarly it doesn't seem to be available to purchase anywhere else. But is the device capable of using the Active Pen whenever the pen would be available? Or to rephrase that queston; can I buy a Thinkpad Yoga 15 from the UK site and a few weeks later (or whenever it is available) buy the Active Pen and have it work with that device?

I know with the regular Wacom tech that you had to buy a digitser built into the system in order for it to work with said pens (like the 2015 version of Thinkpad Yoga 12; there's both regular and didgitser versions) and I assumed this was no different for the new Active Pen tech, however the feature description on the Thinkpad Yoga 15 page is confusing me because it mentions this technology even though you cannot get the pen yet.

I'm sure we'd all appreciate if some Lenovo staff could answer our questions and concerns, many thanks.

I see the 12" generation 2 model has been released in Canada and USA.

Has the ghosting issue that plagued the previous generation been fixed?

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/S-Series-ThinkPads-ThinkPad-Yoga/Thinkpad-Yoga-ghosting-after-image-watermark-issue/td-p/1412737/page/93

If so, is it a new panel? Is the glued-on matte screen film the same as the last one?

What is with the "ships within 4-5 weeks"? Are all units purchased from the Lenovo website subject to these shipping times or just these new models as they are not truly available yet? Can also be read in two ways, Lenovo will ship it out to you in 4-5 weeks, or you will have it in 4-5 weeks.

Any links to the actual models and tech specs? We're past mid'Feb. and most Lenovo sites have barely any details or models and ordering info open.

Like many others, i'd like to order an 12" i5/i7 8GB with pen and FHD - in US or EU... but thus far one can't even see which models have what features... particularly the i7 is absent (and its AES support still unclear).

Any help and ordering guidance might help. Thanks!

ThinkPad Yoga 12 is listed in the PSREF: http://psref.lenovo.com/PSREFUploadFile/Sys/PDF/Think%20Tablets%20_%20Convertibles/ThinkPad%20Yoga%2012/ThinkPad_Yoga12_Platform_Specifications.pdf

What's the difference - if there is one - between the Active Pen and Digitizer Pen? I noticed in the spec sheet that it says "Some: Wacom Active Pen with glossy panel" and "Some: Wacom Digitizer Pen with anti-glare panel". Do the different pens have different pressure levels, etc.?

Good day and welcome to the community.

Please see my post (#5) on page 1 of this thread. That's what I was able to learn at CES.

Hope that helps a bit.

Regards.
