Return of ThinkPad notebook for bussiness/technical use:

- 7 row keyboard layout (the same layout .20 series had) including dedicated volume buttons, no touch gimmicks

- dedicated trackpoint buttons

- LED status indicators (disk, wireless, battery)

- 4K IPS (or other non-TN display technology like IGZO) option

- 3:2 display aspect ratio

- free upgrade to Windows 10

(Yes I know it won't happen but I still can hope)

I want to see the same keyboard layout as the X220.  No large click pad.  I use trackpoint only.  Offer a trackpoint only option.  Dedicated real trackpoint buttons.  No clickpad!!!

7 row keyboard with dedicated buttons for volume and mute.

LED's for HDD, WiFi, WWAN, BT, sleep, hibernate, fingerprint reader, no glossy screens.

The X220 and X230 had the best keyboard layouts.  Bring them back!!

A smaller bezel for a 13" screen would be nice.

Longer battery life.  I don't mind a thicker laptop if I can get 12 hours out of a battery.  Who needs a 1/2" think laptop?  3/4" to 1" is fine with me.

Allow the screen to fold flat all the way around like the yoga's.  That tablet mode does come in handy sometimes.

Thanks,

I want to see an updated Y40 with
GTX 850m/860m or alleged 900 series maxwell
i5/i7 alleged Broadwell based CPU

M.2 support, even if the drive included is a sata HDD, I want the option
backlit keyboard, prefrably white or RGB
higher quality display with a brighter backlight, so it's easier to see in bright areas.

If something like that came out around the $800-$1200mark, I'd buy it.

Since ThinkPad .50 models have been revealed and shows Lenovo is still stubborn with useless keyboard layout I have another feature request for BIOS developers:

Could you please add keyboard scan codes for Fn + all navigation keys (that is PgUp, PgDn and cursor keys) ? That would allows us at least optionally map Home key as Fn + PgUp and End key as Fn + PgDn to have them in cluster. Thanks in advance.

I believe such workaround can be delivered as BIOS update.

Hurrah, the TrackPoint buttons are back! And apparently we have Wacom digitizers on all new Yoga models!

I think overall, Lenovo showed us a lot of really great things at this CES, and I'm happy with their new devices. I'm looking forward to picking up a X250.

That said, there were some things I had hoped to see but didn't ...

1. I would've loved for taller aspect ratios. 16:9 isn't really condusive to productivity, especially on laptops (you could make an argument for large, high-resolution desktop monitors). Even 1920x1200 would've made a world of difference to me.

2. If we're going to get 16:9 displays, I'd have liked to see higher resolution options. Right now only the T550 and X1 Carbon have higher than 1920x1080 options.

3. I'm mentioning this because it's on everyone's mind: we all love the original ThinkPad keyboard. Personally, I'm happy with the chichlet keyboard--the only thing I'm apprehensive about is combining the End and Insert keys--if I turn Fn-lock on, will it stay as End?

4. I'd have liked to see Thunderbolt. PCIe expansion is important to me, as standards keep changing. USB 3.1 and Type C are coming, and Thunderbolt would've provided adapters for them if necessary. Other standards will undoubtedly come within a laptop's lifecycle, and the only way to adapt is via PCIe. The only reason I have USB 3.0 on my T60p is because of Express Card (another external PCIe port).

5. Higher memory support in the ultrabook models. The X250 and T450s will cap out at 8 and 12 GB respectively, which is a shame. I hear 16 GB DIMM modules are coming--will they be compatible?

6. I'd pay good money for a mechanical keyboard with a TrackPoint. The only reason I don't use a mechanical keyboard when my ThinkPad is docked at my desk is because there aren't any with TrackPoints (well, there are, but they're either 60% keyboards or are missing the middle button), and I've been waiting forever for Lenovo to release one.
