All about 14' Yoga style

2016-01-06, 0:25 AM

Nice to find all the highlighted new products on Lenovo website for the CES 2016! I got confused on so many Thinpad Yoga options -- seems currently Lenovo lunched/is going to lunch Thinkpad Yoga 460, Thinkpad P40 Yoga and Thinkpad X1 Yoga to my knowledge. What are the main differences among them? Seems the price levels and lunching dates are close for all of them.

For example, I would like to buy a 2-in-1 laptop that has a pretty nice CPU and decent memory for intensive computing tasks, fast but large enough (no less than 500Gb) hard drive to allow me store data and install dual operating systems (with Linux OS), pen-enabled screen so that I can take notes on the go, some level (no need to be top level) of GPU/graphics card for basic OpenGL applications, and a webcam. BTW, I am a scientist and could be traveling all over the planet to give presentations while doing research in the air. I don't want it to be too expensive but it has to be reliable. Which one do you recommend to me?

Hopefully someone can give a detailed comparison and get my question covered.

Thanks!

The short answer is go for the P40 if you need the best GPU, otherwise save money and go with the 460. The X1 is thinnest and lightest, my personal fave, but you pay for that.

Hope this helps!

I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

Thank you, @bananaman, but I just found the GPU of the P40 Yoga (Quadro M500M) is not on the list of Matlab-enabled GPU computing hardware, which I might need. So, I am in favor of 460 for now. Just waiting for the i7 version pop out some time soon, hopefully. Am I missing anything?

The Quadro M500M is a new GPU, meaning there may not be any in the wild yet.

There is some information here, but it's a speculative analysis, abeit a good one: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-Quadro-M500M.156132.0.html

My own personal speculating is that it would be about 2/3s as fast as the K2100 in a W540, but I can't find the clock speed anywhere.
