ThinkPad WiGig Dock - I want it

Hi

Checking the Thinkpad X1 Carbon page I found that accesory that puzzles me.

It is the ThinkPad WiGig Dock (40A60045)

Thinkpad WiGig Dock

It is a dock.. it has 802.11ad wireless...

...Maybe it is because I'm a Doctor Who fan, but I want it.

Re: ThinkPad WiGig Dock - I want it

It's smaller and cuter in person than I expected. One nice design touch is that the base is red, showing as a thin red stripe.

The screen shot shows how the surrounding WiGig-connectable devices look in Windows 10. There is a pairing code process similar to Bluetooth to keep mischief from happening Smiley Happy.

I moused around using a monitor with a WiGig bar, and there was no perceivable latency. Much better than my previous experience with WiDi.

Questions?

Hello bananaman,

Is the WiGig Dock compatible with Linux such as Ubuntu?

Thanks!

Re: ThinkPad WiGig Dock - I want it

Sadly the ThinkPad WiGig Dock is not available yet in the United States, only in Australia.

Price on Lenovo's Australia website is A$349.01, which equates to US$260.

http://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/accessories-and-upgrades/accessories/docking/wigig-docks-wireless/Think...

Lenovo's USA website states the WiGig Dock is coming soon:

Clutter-Free Desktop - Coming Soon

Wirelessly connect your X1 Carbon to the optional ThinkPad WiGig dock (available with optional 2K display). It's a desktop hub that includes LAN, video outputs, USB ports, and more, which you can take advantage of without running cables across your workspace.

Unclear why the wireless dock is for sale in Australia but not in the USA. :-/
