Bananaman,

When you have time to catch your breath, can you summarize your impressions of this and any other first hand details?

Must be exciting to see it all unfolding there at CES...

Mark

It's amazing that the technology for small devices to be aware of their surroundings, in 3D, is about to come to market.

While the demo 3D room scanning, 3D space measurement, and augmented reality demos are cool, the games created the most excitement. There was a Jenga game and a 3D first-person shooting game which pinned the game world walls to the actual walls surrounding us, and the Project Tango device allowed the shoooter to move around the room to shoot and dodge. The device was mounted in a nerf gun (see pics below).

The 3D picture of the world IS a bit fuzzy, but it's plenty clear enough for tracking play in all kinds of games, and I'm sure this will improve over time.

Another detail they revealed was the the Lenovo device will be "under 6.5 inches". The development hardware we played with was a small (7 inch screen) tablet.

There is also an app incubator, where developers can submit their Project Tango app proposals for a chance to win funding and the chance to have their app featured on the upcoming Lenovo smartphone.
