A note about mechanical side docks and dongles:

From:  ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/DisplayPort-doesn-t-work-on-Basic-Docking-Station-40AG

For the basic dock, you need an "active" converter, so not every dongle will work.

https://www.startech.com/faq/displayport_converter_dp_multi_mode

For the other two dock types, pro and ultra, you can use the passive type of dongle.

The converter referred to is a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.  All of the docks will drive DisplayPort monitors directly, but have different requirements if a DispalyPort to HDMI adapter is used.

I just ordered this model and specced it quite a bit. Was going to get the p52s but I changed my mind over the 15.6" size and opted for the smaller variant.

So looking forward to receiving this, just gotta wait the 2/3wks :-(

Well, I had to evaluate if this laptop could suit our needs after x270. Apparently it does not. Two major issues.

1) No RJ-45

2) cheap 2 USB ports (Well of course there is one USB3 but that don't help our users for next 3 years.)

So after evaluation, this x280 gets the skip.

Re: ThinkPad X280: First Look

Had mine for a little bit now and I am loving it.

The only thing I hate is how very hot it gets if it's laid on the bed or any other surface that covers the vents.

If that happens then it cranks up the heat and the exhausted air by the fans is nearly intolerable, BUT, all things have something wrong with them.

I love the portability, the compactness and the ports. Screen reso, compared to the XPS13",  isn't the greatest but I am used to it now.

Overall a very good bit of kit that will be with me for a while.

Oh, and I love the blinking red light, kinda looks like it's breathing... :-)

I have a hard time believing a seasoned Lenovo person designed this laptop. Sounds like the work of a new hire from another company such as Dell they pulled in for new "ideas".

Lenovo needs to stick to a single methodology with minimum requirements for the staple X series laptops.  Go play with silly new features on the consumer line. We have to use these 8+ hours a day to do actual work.....

This version of the  x280 very few people will buy it.  No serious company will consider it. (case and point the one I work for) They threw this one out and went HP for the offering in this size.

Lenovo please listen to your primary customer base for feedback and not some new hire with a bright idea....
