Flex 11 Chromebook acting alien

My Flex 11 Chromebook, at over a year old, is acting up. I do believe I interupted an update, and that's when the trouble began. Now, when I go to logon to the Chromebook, I am sometimes successful; most times, not.  At the signin screen there is sometimes odd characters that appear; other times, the curser stops blinking, which means I have to close the Book, and start all over again.  This can go on for 3 to 5 minutes if I continually attempt signin.

I did the powerwash--no change.  I thought I would like to try reintroducing the OS to the Chromebook, but I don't know where to get the OS so I can download it on memory card.

Any help? Please?

Re: Flex 11 Chromebook acting alien

Thank you. I have (since posting that help-needed post) successfully reimaged the Chromebook. Works just fine now.  Question: I have the Flex 11 by Lenovo whose mic hasn't been working for over 6 months now. Nothing I do helps. I can, however, use the Snowball mic and that works.  Are you familiar with cases where on-board mics quit working on Chromebooks for no apparent reason?  Thanks for writing back.

Re: Flex 11 Chromebook acting alien

Hi sirzune1,

Thanks for letting us know of your progress. We have not received any posts about the microphone failing on these machines.

We would like to recommend checking the permissions for the microphone by following these steps below.

Navigate to Settings > Advanced Settings > Content Settings and check the permissions.

Let us know if this helps.

Regards,

Jack_Lenovo1

Re: Flex 11 Chromebook acting alien

I attempted your instructions: Navigate to Settings > Advanced Settings > Content Settings and check the permissions, but there is no Content Settings.  Now, if you mean Mic permission, it's on "Ask before accessing".

Re: Flex 11 Chromebook acting alien

Hi sirzune1,

Thanks for writing back.

Kindly set mic permission to always instead of using Ask before accessing.

Let us know if this helps.

Jack_Lenovo1

Re: Flex 11 Chromebook acting alien

I don't see the option for Mic in the regular settings in Privacy and security.  I have to click "If a setting doesn't show on this page, look in your Chrome Browser settings".  I click that and get to Microphone, but there is no option to set Mic to Always; only "Ask before accessing", and "Block". I think I'm royally screwed; don't you?

Re: Flex 11 Chromebook acting alien

Hi sirzune1,

Thanks for writing back.

I have done some additional research regarding the current microphone settings and based on what I can confirm from using a Chromebook first-hand is that this is the only microphone setting I could find.

Have you tried checking if the microphone was working after setting it to always ask?

Re: Flex 11 Chromebook acting alien

Still doesn't work.  Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I'll have to live without a built-in mic.

Re: Flex 11 Chromebook acting alien

Hi sirzune1,

If the steps provided did not work  it is possible that the machine may have hardware related issues.

We would recommend contacting Lenovo Helpdesk by using this link if this is the case.

We hope this helps.
