Lenovo 300e 2nd Edition Power Problems

I have also found that if you simply remove that screw on the bottom of the Chromebook that will fix the issue.

Hi,

I heard removing screen and also black tape where the spacer was put will do the trick too.  Heard that from tech the other day.

We have many Lenovo 300e Chromebooks in our school and we have been having constant issues with the devices not booting and showing no sign of life even while plugged in. After troubleshooting for a while I found that with this model, the back center screw on the bottom of the Chromebook can cause a short. Lenovo has a washer you can purchase through them but I am pretty sure this cost a lot. I found that you can purchase hundreds of  small insulated washers though Amazon for very little money and then just glue the washer on the center back screw thread area on the keyboard where in presses against the motherboard. (this is actually where the shorting happens) I have done this on hundreds of our Chromebook and have not had one recurring issue.

Hello,

I’m having issues on 300e 2nd gen touch screen where it will not turn on tried to esc+refresh +power and nothing. I connect the charger and the light indicator turn on but laptop doesn’t want to turn on even after charging for a while. I seen that there is a some kind of reset button but I don’t know if I should use due to daughter’s school laptop, someone please help?

Hello @ Cholico!

Thanks for posting here at the Community Forums!

Where exactly are you seeing the "reset" button that you're referring to?

Please do share here your device's MTM (machine type-model) number as well for us to check its specifications.

It can be seen through the device's label/sticker or its original packaging and does usually have a format of 8********R as an example.

Try turning on the device still while still plugged to its charger and see if it'll work.

Also, connect it to an external display/monitor (should you have one) then see if it'll turn on and if it will show something on the screen as well.

Thanks,

Adriel_Lenovo

First I would say, if it is the school laptop you should have the IT Department take care of the issue. If you reset the Chromebook on your own you will not have the proper credentials. Also I would have them refer to my articles I posted above. This model has known issues with a nut plate area shorting against the motherboard. I describe how to fix it above in multiple comments.
