710-25ish - vga issue

2018-01-25, 2:35 AM

My issue is the vga output is causing my second monitor to turn off and on.  so at times I only have one monitor.  The other monitor is using a hdmi cable.  Can I turn on the other vga or hdmi port and still have the nvidia graphics card work?  I am not very computer savvy know enough to be dangerous.  Should add that my desktop is a 710-25ish

Mod's Edit: Additional information added to Subject line for clarity of issue.

Ideacenter 300-S90F10 VGA/HDMI problem

2018-02-18, 19:52 PM

This is my first time using this forum so please bare with me.

I 'am having problems connecting a VGA monitor and using the HDMI output at the same time. The HDMI output seems to work intermittantly sometimes the VGA turns off.  Is it possible the graphics card can't power two devices at the same time? Can I upgrade the graphics on this computer. Could it be a setting I'm missing? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes the GPU can run two monitors at the same time.

Yes you can upgrade the graphics card but you think you would need to update the BIOS first.

I put a GTX 1050 Ti in my 710-25ISH day one.

Integrated graphics from the motherboard (VGA & HDMI outputs) should be turned off from the BIOS when using an dedicated graphics card.

My guess the reason the your losing the motherboard video outputs is Windows is turning it off for you.

You ONLY run one or the other at one time.

Thank you for your help would the existing 180-watt power supply be adequate for a discrete Video card.

180 would be cutting it close. The eVGA GTX 1050 Ti daws 75 watts as that is the max of the PCIe x16 slot.

Your first hurdle would be the motherboad's BIOS update with Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI)

Edit: Wait... what is a Ideacenter 300-S90F10? Do you mean 300-20ISH?

Edit2: You should be good to go with lastest BIOS FYKT77A .. if it is 300-20ISH.

Re: Ideacenter 300-S90F10 VGA/HDMI problem

Thank you EyeDeeNo,

My P/C is designated Ideacenter 300S-90F10, Product # 90F10000US.

I recently updated the Intel graphics driver, the systems seem to be working with both VGA (monitor) and HDMI output. I do get a strange event, however,  I set up the Video  Output for "Duplicate" screens   (VGA is the monitor) when I start up (sometimes) it reverts to the second monitor (HDMI) then I can't see the VGA monitor. By the way, the single monitor (VGA) is the only monitor listed in settings yet the HDMI output to the TV screen works. I can't find the setting for setting Main or primary screen. I'm confused.

Thank you for your patience with me.

Okay, so this is a mini tower from what I find looking up 90F10000US.

If you did go with a discrete video card you would need to shop for Low Profile such as this ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Low Profile.

The Main Display setting is a check box under Display in the Settings of Win10.

Thanks again for the information. I don't have the Main Display setting in settings, I have looked it's not displayed anywhere in the display settings. I use Windows 10 Home and have all the latest updates. Again I thank you for your quick response and for your help.
