Able to FINALLY BackUP Lenovo Software !!!

2008-04-29, 7:35 AM
Yes ! Yes ! Yes !

Ok so I did purchase the Avanquest Perfect Image Pro from Fry's ($10 after rebate) and installed it on the K100.  My problem along with others is that when we reformated we did not access the hidden partition so we could not back up the Lenovo Factory software.  With Vista there was no way of accessing that dang EISA partition.

A few suggested other backup software to try but this post is not knocking them , If I could get a hold of Norton Ghost or the other program I would try. The Avanquest box suggest that it could do more so for the price I gave it a try.

After install and going to Volume Explorer I can access the hidden partition from there and... AND... back up any of the files ! One at a time or in groups.  Only problem now is going through all the programs to see what is what before backup.  Then I will go and install Vista Ultimate with the needed programs from Lenovo.

Again this program does work !   Go for it !    BTW the video card price droped again !!! $169 after rebate  BFG 8800GT OC  argh...

I tried ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE 10, and it could NOT backup the SERVICE PARTITION and a WINLOAD.EXE error comes up after restoring the drive image onto a new drive and Vista would not boot.

Update

so I ran into three different files on the hidden partition

.cri files   which I did not know what they were...

.LOG files which I believe are useless right?

and the most important .exe

I have now backed up all the files into folders that I can read and understand as previous posted.

FYI the powerdial program is only 4.13 mb

so here is the list...

Hauppauge Drivers for Media card  (TV tuner)
Intel Chipset software
Intel HD Audio HDMI
Intel Management Engine
Intell Matrix Storage Manager
Intel Pro Network
Intel ViiV software
Earthlink (junk)
Lenovo License (junk)
Lenovo Dirver and App Install
Lenovo LVT Menu
Lenovo OneKey Revovery (4.3mb)
Lenovo pctype   some sort of chinese software update thing
Hotkey driver
Office 2007 Trial
Office Outlook2007 with Business Contact
MS Updater X3
Power2go Software
PowerDial software
SoundMax driver
Trend Micro PC trial
Unknown system backup
Windows Live Toolbar
WinDVD8

I have tried some of the programs on the other computer just to see if they are stand alone and it works.

So Mystery solved about the Software, now comes the backing up part. I am going to back up the whole partition onto My Book that I have and then try to install Vista Ultimate that I got.

So the Perfect Image Pro works !  enjoy.

Purchased the PERFECT IMAGE PRO software. I am posting now to simply confirm that it works!

I now have a replica of the installation software for items like the POWERDIAL and POWER2GO  from the (hidden) SERVICE PARTITION onto my backup external drive AND a DVD disc - which I can now use anytime!

I could now care less about the HIDDEN SERVICE PARTITION on the Lenovo 3000 K100.

Thanks for the great discovery!

OK update.

So I have both the Image of the hidden partition backed up and the individual programs in a seperate folder. Problem on the individual programs is that on some it looks for the Lenovo License and or key to work.  I only tried it on the WinDVD8 and Lenovo OneKey Revovery using my other Desktop.

Glad to know that others are enjoying the Image Pro also.

Other thing I discovered is that the SERVICE PARTITION image cannot be restored onto a different hard drive without having an NTLDR error message upon invoking F2 on POST (or at least it has not worked for me).

I will try again later to see if there is anything that can correct this (MBR?). Again, my intention is to successfully replace the factory hard drive with the SERVICE PARTITION intact - just in case the original hard drive fails down the road.

It's man-made... it can be solved!
