Adding a third sata III drive to 510A-15ARR - data cable splitter or?

2020-06-13, 6:03 AM

I have a new 510A-15ARR with the Ryzen 5-3600G, and I am trying to connect the sataIII ssd from my old computer. After reading the older threads about adding ssd's, I bought a sata power splitter cable and a data cable.

I was under the impression that there was a free port on the mb for an extra data cable, but I dont see anything on my mb or on the hardware PDF.

I have been looking for a data splitter cable, but I have not found anything that look like it will work. They all say they are mini SAS 36P to SATA, and I read that that is not the correct cable.

What do I need to do to add this ssd to my system? At the moment I have unplugged the optical drive and used that cable for the ssd, but I really need an optical drive too.

Thanks,

Larry

These are the cables I ordered. Its the first link that is the problem. The power splitter works fine.

Splitting the power is not a problem but you cannot spit a SATA Data cable.     It looks like that model has only two SATA 3.0 ports on the motherboard, and one I presume is in use by the DVD/CD optical drive, so your only options are to sacrifice the DVD/CD, or move your SSD into an external USB drive enclosure (assuming that it is a 2.5" SSD)

Some models came with a M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD, which left one SATA port open, but it requires this bracket to install.

The M.2 SSD bracket needed is listed below, but it appears to be hard to find.

Description                                                             Part Number

M.2 SSD bkt W/HT_EC,AVC MISC INTERNAL     02CW539

Best of luck,

I swapped an SSD for my optical drive using a Slim SATA 7 + 15 22 Pin Female to SATA Male 7 + 6 Pin 13pin Adaptor Convertor FH. The drive just lays in the optical drive bay. It's working great for the past 1.5 years now. 720-18ASU IdeaCentre.

Thanks guys! Sorry for the clumsy quotes. I havent figured out how to properly quote someones answer.

Some models came with a M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD, which left one SATA port open, but it requires this bracket to install.

The M.2 SSD bracket needed is listed below, but it appears to be hard to find.

Thanks! My MB has that bracket already installed. In fact, I am adding a 1TB M.2 drive later today.

However, there is still no free sata port as far as I can see. One is in use with the original HDD, and one is in use for the optical drive.

I still want to keep the optical drive , and install the ssd from my old computer. It has around 400 GB of pics, videos, movies, and other files I want to keep - and have fast access too, but I would prefer to not clutter up the new M.2 drive. I want to use the HDD as an internal back up drive.

After more Googling, I realize now that I cant split that data cable, but what about adding a PCIe SATA expansion card  to run the optical drive? Both PCI slots are free. That would leave the two existing SATA ports on the MB free for my old ssd and the existing HDD.

Thanks for the help, but that doesnt quite do what I am after.

but what about adding a PCIe SATA expansion card  to run the optical drive?

Ive given up on this idea. The less expensive cards on Amazon all have quite a few bad reviews. Im just going to use an external USB dvd/bluray drive and leave the extra ssd on that sata port.

Thanks for the help guys!
