Bracket needed for installing M.2 NVMe SSD into IdeaCentre 510S-08IKL?

2021-04-12, 13:34 PM

I just installed a new SSD drive in the M.2 slot of my IdeaCentre 510S-08IKL.

It works absolutely fine - but there's nothing physically holding it in place other than the port itself. There's nothing to hold the other end in (where there is a semi-circle cut-out for a screw or plug to hold the end down).

As the card hangs down vertically, this feels a little insecure - is this something I should worry about?

If so, what can I do about it?

The HMM barely mentions the M.2 port. They do list this (Mech Asm Avc, M.2 Ssd Brk Asm(244mm)) in the spare parts list - no idea what this is, but the acronyms suggest it might be useful - is it? Its relatively expensive for a bit of plastic and hard to track down at the moment so I'd like to be sure it will help before ordering it.

Any help/advice really appreciated!

Fred

Yes, brackets are model specific, but may overlap with other Lenovo system types.  Get one that is correct for 510S.

Hello @Fredmart,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

I apologize for the late reply. Kindly let me know if you are still having this issue.

I've checked the parts list and the part is listed as the SSD bracket which should hold the SSD in place.

Parts list: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/rs/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/500-series/510s-08ikl/90gb/parts/display/compatible

Hope this helps.
Regards,
Jack_Lenovo1

The card is hold in place by the plastic pins that you see in the photo for the part you linked to above.  The pins have a leash so they don't become lost, look for them attached to your bracket.

Thanks both, good to know. Are the brackets quite model specific? There's one for Eg a thinkcentre which is much easier to source. Would this fit?
