Re: Can I change the graphics card on IdeaCentre 300s

2017-04-25, 5:30 AM

I installed the GTX750i. Then I used an 8" SATA 15pin to 6pin PCI Express Card Power Cable to route power from the SATA cable to the 6-pin PCIE power port on the GPU.

There are full-height Gtx 750 Ti that do not require 6-pin PCIe power, such as the shorter EVGA models, which are known to work in ThinkCentre towers with stock ~250w power supplies.

Have the same machine now with a GTX1050 ti 4g (low power msi ) on a 350 W standaard PSU
With the extra cable (everybody should buy it) ,
16 gb of ram running smooth ;)I'm in the sweet spot with this one.

Which power supply did you use? I'm looking to install a ttc 1060 bit the current psi doesn't have the connectors needed.

I used a generic psu  320 W right now (with the extra adaptor) and have a GTX 1050 ti from MSI  mine doesn't need extra power for the graphics card. So you might have to consider a low power card ? not sure if 1060 has those, But you can also tap the power of a SATA not ideal, with the adaptor above it should be possible.

Appreciate the response. I went ahead and bought a 400w psu with the adapters. Hopefully it's sufficient enough.

That should do just fine, just check the power req of that Vcard, yours might even be a bit overkill for this motherbord but it's ok. powerwize

Re: Can I change the graphics card on IdeaCentre 300s

Hi Im new here. I wanted to upgrade my 300s as well.  i was just wondering if there was any difference between these two cards:

ViewMax GeForce GT720 2 GB GDDR3 PCIe

and this

NV GF GT720 2G Graphics Card 00PC522

The viewmax is cheaper so i was wondering if it would be okay running it (with the 250 psu upgrade)?

any help is appreciated.  thanks.

Thank you guys! I learnt a lot from your discussion and went on to upgrade the graphics on my ideacentre 300-20ish. So want to share my upgrade details here:

For power supply, I got CORSAIR VS Series, VS400, 400 Watt, Active PFC Power Supply, 80+ White Certified, and a 24 pin to 10 pin adapter (just search on Amazon, a lot of similar items);

For graphics card, I got ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1050, 2GB GDDR5 DisplayPort, HDMI, Dual-Link DVI-D, Super Compact Gaming Graphics Card (ZT-P10500A-10L) . I got the mini version so no need to worry about if it fits or not. It actually fits very easily. Just be careful about the wireless card wires. Needed to reroute them a bit.

It is the first time ever I upgraded my pc and I'm so happy it worked.

Some minor issues are: the PSU comes with a lot of cables, took me some time to do the cable management; the pc got significantly warmer if I put the side panel on. So I plan to leave it open.

I suggest buying a semi or fully modular power supply (EVGA or Corsair are popular brands), that way you only install the cables you need and don't have any issues with air flow.
