Can I upgrade my graphics card on an IdeaCentre 510S-08IKL? (Solved: GT 1030)

2018-07-05, 12:38 PM

Hi everyone,

I'd like to improve the graphics on my IdeaCentre but am a bit confused about:

- whether I can replace my existing GPU or if it is integrated into the motherboard

- if I can't replace it, if/how I can install a second graphics card (e.g. a

GeForce GTX 1050 Ti). As I'm not sure where this will end up, I also not sure whether this will fit or not.

System specs:
- IdeaCentre 510S-08IKL 90GB
- Current GPU: Intel HD Graphics 630
- WIndows 10 64-bit

I followed the hardware maintenance manual for my system but there is no graphics card in the place where it says to remove it (unless I'm missing something very obvious - totally possible!)

Here is a photo of the inside of my desktop:

Any help would be really appreciated!

Fred

Intel HD 630 graphics are intregated onto the main Intel processor chip.  Your small form factor system does have a PCIe x16 slot, and so can accommodate a low-profile graphics card, a GT 730 or GT 1030 DDR5 (be sure to get the DDR5 version, as the DDR4 has 1/2 the performance of the DDR5.).

Hi Fredmart.

Also interested in upgrading my graphics card.

Just wondering if you needed to upgrade the power supply as both of those graphics cards state a recommended psu of 300w. My 510-151kl has 210w?

Hi John, I've installed the GT-1030 and its running fine so far on the original power supply (also 210W). This is the only hardware change I've made from how it came.

Just FYI the card is only JUST short enough - we're talking a couple of millimetres max between it and the hard drive attached to the front panel. It makes it a little tricky to arrange all the wires inside, but it does fit.

This helped me too

This Gigabyte version of the card is one of the shorter ones:  GT 1030 Low Profile 2G -- GV-N1030D5-2GL

What is the best graphics card that suits this computer?

Edit: The PSU is only 180w

You can measure the length of your graphics card slot to see what will fit.  It must be a low-profile card, as you have a 'Slim' system.  Other owners have installed a GT 1030 DDR5, which is the current best low-power card, but that will depend on what the other power draw is on your 180w supply (are you sure it's a 180w - you can double check by looking at the label on the side of the power supply itself, you may need to Google the part number.)   Please provide the Intel processor model, and what wattage it uses.
