Computer seems strange.

2008-05-04, 15:35 PM
I now have my 3rd Lenovo computer in 3 weeks.  The first had a hard drive that died when it tried to install SP1.  The replacement was dead on arrival and the third seems to be working, but the small "C" drive is a pain.

I have never had an experience like this and would have taken it back and got a refund, but did not realize I had to save the box.  My sales slip said 30 days refund but there was a small sign over the exit door that had the box rule.  So, I am stuck.

Windows Explorer says the "C" drive has used 25.4 GB and has 3.84 GB free.

The drive has 5 folders and 6 files.  The files total 424 Mb and the folders total 14.25 GB, for a grand total of 14.674 GB.  I lost 10GB somewhere.  I was wondering if anyone knew what the heck was happening?  What happened to the 10 GB.

If I try to load any programs I ger the warning message asking me to update the base backup.  Every program that gives me an option on where to put it ends up in the "D: drive.  Any suggestions on how to get more transfered to the "D" drive.

If my questions seem a little dumb, remember I am a 68 year old guy trying to become computer smart.

My computer is a 3000 K100 57068347, it has 3Gb of DDR2, and a 320GB SATA II drive.

Every time I use the computer it wants me to Update Base Backup.  This is really a problem and I do not want to live with it.  I have tried to make sure that all programs go to the D drive.

Is there anything I can do?

We  are talking about this problem it a few threads. Repartitioning the Hard Drive , Drive C too small and others. I have a 3000 K100 w/3gig ram, and 500 gig HD, When I get that omninious message it says " insuffecient Dynamic buffer.... Reset base backup..."   I find it hard to accept that increasing the size of C drive will be a permanant fix. Seems most of responders are running from 9 to 3 gigs free in C. So if we can get the computer to work  in D and just use C for Op. System and Restore back up things will work fine. I bet that's the way it should work because doing a full restore looses everything that has been added to  C .
When I had to call support because computer locked up, I had to do a forced shut down.
Support had me restart in a safe mode and go to right click and go to  properties in all the standard folders and change the "C" to "D".  now everything I save is in D. I still get the message but far less often. And I still do not get the chance to put  all downloaded programs and such to  D.
REsetting the Back up date regularly also seems to be standard procedure. as it says in help.

OK I may be looking for a  solution that's simple but why not. I have read all the messages from 3000 K-100 users from last year and they all seemed to be happy with no mention of back up trouble, What changed.

I will keep up on these messages boards hoping for a simple and safe repair.

Since these boards are monitored and sponsored by Lenovo, you would think that they would understand the problem and offer a solution.

I may be wrong, and I do not want to offend anyone, but it looks as if Lenovo has decided that it is up to the owners to find a work around, and not them.  They created this situation and I would think they would feel an obligation to offer a solution.

Would you please explain what you just said, in more detail.  Or let me know where to go to read about this  "fix".
