H210 Processor upgrade question

2009-06-01, 12:47 PM

I picked up a 3000 H210 57091130 at a great price during Circuit City's going out of business sale.

Now I find it is a little slow for my needs. I installed an LG bluy-Ray drive and find the machine just can't keep up. I did put in a nVidia GeForce 9400 GT video card and it now plays Blue-Ray at 720p. If I go up to 1080 the screen flashes. Not enough processor for the task. I am running Vista Premium so I also turned off the Areo stuff for a little more speed.

Two questions;

1. The unit came with an Dual Core E2220 2.4 GHz, 800 FSB chip. I am looking to upgrade to something faster and find I can't get any real info on the Lenovo motherboard. I feel certain just moving up to an E5400 will work with the motherboard because the only real difference is 2 MBytes of L2 vs the E2220's 1 MByte. Clock speed I think is 2.8 GHz. The FSB is the same 800 MHz.

This processor is not listed as Blue-Ray capable by PowerDVD so I am hesitant to spend the $80 bucks t find out it is still a little short. This is a fairly new chip so perhaps PowerDVD ju8st has not tried it. To be safe they recommend an E6300. That chip has 1066 MHz FSB and I can't find anywhere if that would work with my motherboard.

Any one know if the E6300 should work? Are they jumpers to change the FSB bus speed from 800 to 1066?

 2. My viedo card has an input connection for sound so it can be passed to the TV via the HDMI connection. I can't find anywhere on the Lenovo motherboard where it might be possible to connect. Any suggestions?

This is my first Lenovo computer and while it is OK, I find the lack of information available on the Lenovo web site to be very frustrating. Am I missing some obvious place I should be looking?

Thanks

Download and run CPU-Z.

Go to the "Mainboard" tab.

Post a screen capture, or what is shown for "Chipset" and "Southbridge".
