H50-55: Wireless Lost - error code 45

2016-06-28, 12:42 PM

I own a Lenovo H50-55 running Windows 10. Recently, when exiting sleep mode, it was "hanging" so I ended up turning it off by holding down the pwoer button. I switched back on and all was fine.

Except that I was no longer able to connect to the internet. WiFi options had disappeared from the Network and Internet section of settings. When I look at the device manager, the wireless card and software device are hidden (but are revealed by showing hidden devices). When I select them, I am given error code 45 - "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer."

The wireless capabilities of the computer are built-in. I have disconnected nothing so cannot, as the error message recommends, re-connect the device. So how do I reinstate the wifi capability of my computer?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Well, it seems that you have to have the internet to get it.

I tried installing a new driver, to no avail. However, there do seem to be a number of items (real or virtual) that are involved in providing the WiFi capability. Clearly, I had not updated everything that required updating.

I gave in and invested in some cabling, etc. to establish an ethernet connection. Once I'd done this, the computer was able to download all the updates, drivers and whatever else it needed from the internet and now it has wireless capability again.

So I guess my advice to anyone who experiences a similar problem would be to try borrowing ethernet cabling for a while.

Thanks very much for your efforts.

Hi CandA ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can start jumping back to previous date using system restore for any configuration that may have changed without losing anything for as long as you don't have any encrypted files.

Reinstalling particular WIFI driver can also reset driver indentification setting as another option.

Checking further for possibilities that it got loosened on the antennae cables and position , you can check / reseat WLAN card and cable as seen in the hardware manual (page50) as per error code description.

If same issue , give technical suppport a call for further recommendation and service as needed.

Thanks for your suggestions, Spidey.

Unfortunately, I had not set any system restore points (a painful way to learn the importance of these!) and re-installing the driver seems to make no difference.

Looks like I need to give support a call.

Hi CandA ,

Greetings.

You may also try resetting BIOS (tapping F1 on start) F9 to load defaults , F10 save and exit.

And if still you do not have the wlan card detected please have tech support notified so that they would be able to recommend needed action for this error 45 non detection.

Update us how things go .

Regards

Re: H50-55: Wireless Lost - error code 45

I have the same problem of no WIFI here, although with no error code. I received a Win10 update yesterday, then my sys got hung-up in sleep mode today and once I did a hard reboot WIFI was missing... After tons of research and testing diferrent options (several drivers, power saving settings regarding wake from sleep, etc.) I hit a wall as WIFI is complete missing from adapter options and/or any device mgr listings...

Any ideas for fixing this? Much appreciated as I'm getting desperate here...

Hi,

same problem here after Win10 update last night and rebooting this mornign after PC was hung up in sleep mode, although I dont get error code... Tried everything, to include drivers, BIOS, registry fix, messing with speedy recovery options from sleep mode/power savings, etc. with no avail - WIFI is completely missing from network adapter/device manager menu.

Please help!!! Getting desperate here after spending 4hrs researching... Dont wanna do full recovery because it was enabled by default and I'd lose other software...

Thank you!

Hi baronka ,

Greetings .

As you have done all other steps ,  you may try checking for windows update and go thru all needed updates as offered else another option is to revert back to the previous Windows version before it went to Windows 10.

Before any steps , I would encourage you to back up you files and create your recovery image to be on the safe side.

Hope this helps .

Regards
