Ideacentre 300S-11ISH won't boot

2019-05-12, 21:29 PM

Hello, I have an ideacentre 300S-11ISH that won't boot. When I press the power botton the cpu fan starts to spin, but nothing more. Can I install an internal speaker / buzzer to identify the issue?
I opened it up and it's all right, it doesn't seem to have any burned component on the mother board.

Thank you

Re: Ideacentre 300S-11ISH won't boot

Greetings and welcome new Lenovo forum user from Italy,

This could be do to a failed power supply not providing proper power but in the case for the 300S-11IBR uses either a 65 watt (part number 54Y8964) or a 90 watt (part number 54Y8966) AC to DC adapter. Or some other component has gone bad that will require the need of someone with the tools and knowledge for hands-on troubleshooting.

There is already a buzzer on the motherboard.

Thank you.
The fan of the power supply spins when I pusg the power botton.
Can I use a psu tester to test the psu?

Your 300S-11ISH has a internal power supply?

According to the ideacentre 300S Series Hardware Maintenance Manual Page 33 the system uses an external power brick much like an laptop.

Huh? Okay so after a more deeper look I see some 300S-11ISH do have the HuntKey model HK280-72PP 180W 10+4-Pin TFX Form Factor PSU Lenovo FRU: 54Y8937 .

One can find all sorts of information on the pin outs of the industry standard 24 or 20+4 ATX connector pinouts and how to test the supply by jumping pins and using a multimeter but not so much for a 10-pin Lenovo uses.

Hopefully another Lenovo forum user can chime in with first hand knowledge of pinouts on 10-pin units.

Thank you.

I'm quite sure the problem isn't the psu, it's a relaiable FSP.
I'm afroid it's the motherboard.
Do you know the position of the buzzer on the board? I can't find it.

Well everything else I have found and told you has apparently been wrong.

The buzzer should be just under the PCI slots near the edge of the board, it is black tiny round with a even smaller round hole in the center of housing. Edit: External Drive Magnetic Buzzer - AC-1205G

I guess I should have aksed for earlier but do you know the product number of your Lenovo system? If not the info can be found using Lenovo Vantage or Lenovo Solution Center at the bottom of either one on the main page.

The info would help to identify your system, for instance my system's product number is 90FB0001US a variant of the Ideacentre 710-25ISH product line.

Mine doesn't have the buzzer soldered :/

BTW the motherboard is exactly as the one you posted.

I'll try to put a buzzer there

Forgive me mother Lenovo, I'm not a professional....

...but it worked!

It give 3 short beeps and 1 long. I found that 1 long and 3 short beeps stands for memory failure. Are them the same message or not?

I tested the ram on an other pc and I worked. Of course I put a working ram on the 300s, but it won't boot.

I changed also CMOS battery, but nothing.

Is the motherboard gone?
