K210 - Second Hard Drive

2009-06-20, 0:32 AM

Hi, I am thinking about installing another (a second) hard drive on my K210 - 53134BU system and would appreciate if someone could help in advising exactly what I need to do? Specifically, where do I place the drive, where do I connect it to, ...... anything else that I need to consider?

Thank you,

Bob

The SATA data cable will need to be like this one. The cable for the original hard drive is about 15-16".

I wonder if it's safe to use this type of power splitter as the PSU only has one molex connector. The rest are for SATA hard drives.

You can find both on NewEgg.

It's fairly easy. You remove the side panel. Pull out the second hard drive tray [the blue one]. Insert the new hard drive into this tray. Then push the tray into the original location.

You will need to purchase a molex to SATA power connector with a 90-degree bend also an SATA cable with a 90-degree bend. Otherwise there will be interference with the side panel.

Second Hard Drive

2009-06-20, 12:00 PM

Thank you for your help Ortegaluis and for all the help you have been providing to other users.

It does appear to be pretty easy but before I purchase a Molex to SATA Power Connector I wanted to check if these (that I found on eBay) are what I need since the descriptions are slightly different (and I am not familiar with them) as well as the lenght (is 18" enough or do I need a larger extension).

Thank you again for your help,

Bob

Second Hard Drive

One other question Ortegaluis if you don't mind, WHERE do I connect the "molex to SATA power connector"?

Thanks again,

Bob

You will have to remove the molex to SATA power connector that is connecting your original hard drive. Then install the molex to SATA splitter. That should do the trick.

You should open the case just to be sure.

Second Hard Drive

2009-06-22, 17:43 PM

I hate to continue being a pain in the ^%$# ortegaluis but want to confirm that I understand that you correctly and I no longer should be looking for a "molex to SATA power connector with a 90-degree bend also an SATA cable with a 90-degree bend" but instaed a molex to SATA power connector AND SPLITTER with a 90-degree bend and SATA cable with a 90-degree bend".

Is this WHAT I need and if so, is NewEGG where I should look for it and is it called (would it show up as)

a molex to SATA power connector AND SPLITTER with SATA 90-degree bend cable?

Thank you for your help ortegaluis,

Bob

Don't worry about it. You're not bothering me.:smileyhappy:

Anyway, this is the SATA power connector. And this is the SATA data cable.

Now just verify that the current SATA power cable is connected to a molex connector because Lenovo could have used a different power supply. Enjoy.

Second Hard Drive

2009-07-20, 15:45 PM

Hello Ortegaluis, I'm still fiddling around trying to install the 2nd HD and am back for a little more help.

I opened the Lenovo K210 and placed the 2nd HD in the plastic holder so it is now in position so I believe that all I have to do is connect 2 cables, and the question is which 2 cables. BTW, I took a few photos of the inside of the system showing several "available" cables that were provided by Lenovo and would like to POST them but have not found a link to POST attachments on this message board.  From the best that I can tell, there are several "lose" cables that are connected to the Motherboard which are tied together waiting to be used. I believe that one of them is the SATA Power Supply cable and all I need to do is connected it to the 2nd Drive. The SATA data cable is the one that I am having trouble with, none of the available "lose" cables appears to have the  pin settings of "the other" cable that is used for the 1st HD (that came with the system).  Again, POSTING photos would be great but e I don't know if that can be done so if you don't mind, I would like to ask a few questions. The cable that I believe I need appears to be at a 45 degree angle, I assume that this the SATA data cable?  Is their a SATA data cable that I can puchase taht has a splitter, that is with two separate cables that can be connected to two separate HDs?   Or do I need to buy a standalone (a separate) SATA data cable and if I do, where do I connect theOTHER end of the SATA data cable?  I appreciate your patients Ortegaluis and thank you for your help.

Bob

You can host your pictures on one of many free image hosting sites such as PhotoBucket or TinyPic. Then you can post links or embed the pictures in your post in accordance with the Forum Rules. No pictures larger than 50KB.

Will be waiting for the pictures. :smileywink:
