K450e - Which realtek Driver do I download from the Manf? I am confused... Manf Website not helping

2017-11-16, 20:06 PM

This is the device.
realtek 8821ae wireless lan 802.11ac

Which driver do I get from realtek?

http://www.realtek.com/downloads/

If you look there on the left, there are categories.  This is a "NIC", I assume?  But which one.  This is a Lenovo computer.  I am trying to get the drivers from the manufacturer though.  Please help. Again, I am trying to determine what to choose from the website above

Hi BrokenPerson,

Warm Greetings & welcome to Lenovo Community, happy to have you here.

Please try to install Realtek PCIe WLAN from here which is supported for the device name as RTL8821AE

I hope the above information helped you.

Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Regards,
Prabhansh

Please tell us what Lenovo machine you have.  There should be drivers available for download specific to your Lenovo laptop for this Realtek wireless network adapter, and tested and guaranteed to work with your Lenovo laptop by Lenovo.

Not that it might not work, but it's not ordinarily a good idea to go to the hardware vendor's site for drivers when Lenovo offers a "guaranteed" driver version for that hardware.  Lenovo uses Realtek hardware, and Lenovo fully stands behind the problem-free drivers it provides for that Realtek hardware.  Lenovo also uses parts from other manufacturers as well (graphics, audio, fingerprint reader, touchpad, camera, etc.) and also absorbs their drivers into the Lenovo "guaranteed" set of software available for use, that is known to work reliably on the Lenovo laptop along with other hardware which may be present.

Is there a reason you are wanting to use the Realtek version, instead of the Lenovo-provided version?  The Realtek driver is "generic" for their chip, not necessarily exactly as possibly implemented in a Lenovo laptop product.  That's why expecting the use of Lenovo-provided "guaranteed" versions of hardware drivers on Lenovo laptops is no different than how Dell or any other computer maker provides software to their customers.

I've been having a lot of problems with my rig.  It is a K450e. Though a lot of it is updated.  The mobo is original as are the realtek devices.  I am trying to rule everything out.  I have no issue with Lenovo.  Though if I download it directly from the manf myself, I can 100% rule out problems with Lenovo services/updates.  I just did not fully understand the realtek descriptions, it was a little confusing.  As far as customer support Realtek was horrible - Lenovo has always been great.

I got the driver, I ruled out Lenovo or problems with that device.  Problem still not solved.  My final step a few weeks from today - buy a new Lenovo :)

Good day.

I've moved your thread to the proper forum.

Have you looked at the K450e support pages at: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/ideacentre-k-series-desktops/lenovo-k450e-desktop?

In the Downloads section at: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/ideacentre-k-series-desktops/lenovo-k450e-desktop/downloads there are two Realtek WLAN packages available:

Win10: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/DESKTOPS-AND-ALL-IN-ONES/IDEACENTRE-K-SERIES-DESKTOPS/LENOVO-K450E-DESKTOP/downloads/DS104538

Win7/8/8.1: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/DESKTOPS-AND-ALL-IN-ONES/IDEACENTRE-K-SERIES-DESKTOPS/LENOVO-K450E-DESKTOP/downloads/DS100294

Is this useful?

Regards.
