Lenovo H30-50: do I have power for a i5/i7 CPU?

2021-01-20, 15:57 PM

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of making a CPU upgrade for my H30-50, which originally comes with a Pentium G3250 CPU.

On the FRU list of the maintenance manual the following I5 and I7 CPUs are supported:

I I7-4790 3.6/1600/4C/8M/1150 84W CPU 1101104
I I7-4770 3.4/1600/8/1150 84 CPU 1100783
I I5-4460 3.2/1600/4C/6M/1150 84W CPU 1101107
I I5-4440 3.1/1600/4C/6M/1150 84 CPU 1100949

Just wondering if the unit also support other LGA 1150 CPUs which are not on the list? For example a I5 4590S or I7 4790S with a TDP of 65W? In principle the H81 chipset used by the mainboard supports the I5 4590S but I am not sure if it goes well with the mainboard. The thing is that the PC comes also with a discrete video card (GTX 745) so I don't want to stress the power unit too much, so a CPU with lower TDP like the ~S ones would be preferred.

Does anyone have any experience on that? Thanks a lot!

This system never sold with 'S' processors.  Look at the label on the power supply itself, if you have the 240w (as opposed to the 180w), then you have power to spare for a regular i5/i7.

Thanks for your reply. I see that the official system doesn't come with an ~S CPU. Still want to know if I put an ~S one, or even a ~T one with LGA 1150 in the socket, will the main board recognise the CPU correctly and the system functions well? A step back, for some of the standard LGA 1150 CPUs, like the I5 4590 or I7 4790, which are not on the official list, would you have problems in getting it working with the main board? Thanks!
