Lenovo H530s gpu upgrade

2019-10-24, 17:00 PM

Hello guys, it's my first time posting something on the forums. So I have a lenovo H530s pc with the following specs:

I5 4460

8gb DDR3 ram @ 1600 mhz

No gpu yet (using the igpu)

I don't know what wattage my psu is

Windows 10 64 bit.

My question is can I put an gt 1030 low profile inside this pc without having to change the power supply?

Many thanks

If your PC did not ship with a GPU, then it probably has the 180W PSU (fairly easy to verify by removing the 4 screws securing the PSU and looking at the label underneath).

The Nvidia 1030 only requires 30W, but the I5 4480 is 85W CPU, so I don't think you will have enough power to push fans and HDD's etc.

If you have to go to a larger PSU, the possible Part numbers/FRUs for the 240 PSUs listed here are shown below

Doing just a quick search, I found a used one in Sweden on Ebay, but you might try searching for the part numbers in your region.

Best of luck,

Apologies for the late response.  While JDGillis is correct, if you do have the 180w supply, there is a solution that does not involve replacing the supply.  Disconnect the optical drive (both cables) if installed, and replace the HDD with a SSD (such as Samsung 860 Evo, 256 GB or more), then you will have sufficient power to run the 30w GT 1030 DDR5 (DDR4 versions have half the performance.)  When I write replace, I do mean replace, not add or supplement the HDD (a SSD requires less power than a HDD.)  And you will also have the added benefit of much faster storage access.

I do not work for Lenovo. I do not respond to Private Messages for help, your questions should be posted in the appropriate forum where the information exchange may help others. If I helped you, click the 'Thumbs up' button, if solved, the 'Accept as solution'.
