Re: Lenovo - IdeaCentre 510A-15ABR Desktop - AMD A12-Series - 12GB Memory

Hi

Those GPU's were tested to work based on Specification of a IdeaCenter 510-15ABR on this link which means there is no need to upgrade if you will just use it for light work load. ( low profile type of graphics is what fits on your computer )

If you will do Gaming then that's the time that you will need to upgrade your Power supply to the suggested 350 Watts  ( this apply to all the graphics cards on the list I sent you earlier).

Note: Check how many pins are there on your power supply so you will know what you need to buy for an upgrade ( if I'm not mistaken you have 20 PINs on it you can double check just to make sure )

Hope this help answer your query.

Regards

Re:Lenovo 510A-15ABR & 15ARR - upgrading graphics card

Open the side of your system, and check the label on your power supply.  If it says "Total Watts:  210w" then it can run one of the higher spec low-profile cards (75w) shown above or below, although I suspect the GTX 1650 would work also.  Best to choose a shorter card that does not require supplemental 6-pin PCIe power for easiest fit.  If it says "Total Watts:  180w", then the GT 1030 DDR5 (30w) is your best choice without upgrading the supply, I like the MSI cards with 4K HDMI and DP video ports the best.

Re:Lenovo 510A-15ABR & 15ARR - upgrading graphics card

2020-10-08, 1:16 AM

Hello folks,

I have a Lenovo  IdeaCentre 510A-15ARR

●  Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3400G (3.70GHz 2MB)

●  Graphics: APU (AMD Radeon RX Vega 11 graphics)

●  OS: Windows 10 Home 64 bit

●  Memory: 8.0GB PC4-21300 DDR4 UDIMM 2666MHz

●  Storage: 1TB (7200rpm) HDD + 256GB SSD

●  DVD Drive: DVD Super Multi Drive

●  Power Adaptor: 210W

Upgraded to 16Gb RAM. Now I want to add a dedicated video card. According to posts in this thread a 2Gb 75w GTX-1050 should work. I'm looking at an MSI GTX 1050 Ti 4GT LP [PCIExp 4GB] and wonder if this will work as well.

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Re:Video card for IdeaCentre 510A-15AAR

I'm not finding any specs for 510A-15AAR, can you check this model number.  Run also a 'sys info', a model or machine type number will be there.

Yes, your 15ARR uses the same case as the 15ABR, and with the 210w power supply that you have, will accommodate the MSI low-profile GTX 1050 Ti 4GB (also rated at 75w, same as a non-Ti 1050) shown in your link.  From your system specs:

Re:Lenovo 510A-15ABR & 15ARR - upgrading graphics card

Thank you. I really didn't want to jump into anything without first knowing if it was possible.

I'm used to, or was used to, building my own machines, but health, dexterity and sudden lack of youth persuaded me to buy pre-built. I've always had a soft spot for IBM (Lenovo) machines since my OS/2 days and Lenovo and Linux work well together too. I had an IBM Thinkpad 390X, if I recall!

Anyway, I will head out to get said video card as soon as possible. Looks like the typhoon is due to hit us tomorrow!

Take care in these difficult times and many thanks!
