Lenovo V520S: What M.2 SSD are supported?

2020-08-02, 6:24 AM

Hi, I'm trying to upgrade my system. Bought and Installed an ADATA SU650 240GB M.2 SATA SSD. I can't find the drive neither in Windows nor in BIOS. Even tried to update BIOS to no effect.  I'm starting to wonder this drive is not compatible with the system. Anyone can shed some light?

Thanks!!

Joaquin

Re:Lenovo V520s M.2

There may be multiple sub-models of V520S, but for V520S-08IKL, the specs only show support for:

"M.2 Solid State Drive (SSD) / PCIe NVMe, PCIe 3.0 x 4, 32Gb/s"

you have a SATA M.2 drive, which will not work.

Thank you, that's clearly it. I thought that could be the issue. It's a pitty since NVMe are more expensive. Thanks again.

I decided to trade the drive. Before I make another mistake, will any NVMe PCIe 3x4 work? Also, I want to move the OS to that drive, will the system boot from the M2 drive?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, any NVMe PCIe 3.0 x 4 drive, the Samsung 970 Evo is most popular on this Forum.  And it will boot from it, that is the NVMe part.  PCIe M.2 is more expensive, but can be 4x faster than SATA.
