Lenovo V530-15ICB PSU Noise

2019-05-13, 20:20 PM

Hello,

I have Lenovo V530-15ICB.

My problem is the PSU fan never stops that leads to noise.

I've entered BIOS settings to check if there is a setting to slow down/customize the PSU fan speed but such setting doesn't exist.

Since I use the SSD from my old notebook, the disk is formatted as MBR. (I don't know if this makes difference or not)

I have latest version of BIOS installed: M1YKT48A

I'd like to know if there is a setting like "silent mode" for PSU?

Thanks!

Hi jetblack!

Welcome to the community forums.

Could you try to run a hardware diagnostic using the Lenovo Vantage application and check if there will be a failed test in every part?

Hi MarkVin_Lenovo,

Thanks for your reply.

I did all tests and every test finished with success.

I thought that PSU fan should only work if it is really necessary but thats not in my case.

Maybe this situation is by design. (or hopefully will be resolved in the next BIOS update)

Best Regards,

If there are any power supply that the cooling fan can stop when temps are low I have never heard of such. A PSU is not something you want to get to warm.

To add, as far as the BIOS knows there is no fan in the power supply.

Hi EyeDeeNo,

Thanks for your post.

I can confirm that this situation is not a problem for me anymore.

I use the latest BIOS. Actually, PSU fan noise level seems to be very little considering the average PSUs.

I had a T530 notebook before this PC, so I thought something may be wrong when I heard a little noise.

The feature I was searching for looks like to be specific to P series.
