Looking for a graphic card for my Ideacentre 5i

2021-01-03, 21:42 PM

I am looking to upgrade my Ideacentre 5i with a dedicated GPU. I haven't been in this situation before (either used integrated gpu's or bought a PC with a preinstalled card), so I'd be grateful for your help and suggestions.

- Does any Ideacentre 5i user have installed a gpu that they can recommend?

- Alternatively, can anyone recommend a gpu for my specifications?

I know that my motherboard has a single slot and an 8-pin PCIe connectors [or is it 6? I can't seem to find my motherboard specs online. If anyone dealt with this problem before, let me know].

The PSU gives 260W in power.

And the case is 284.6mm x 145mm x 340mm / 11.2" x 5.7" x 13.4" in size.

I'm afraid with the 260w (the lowest wattage available) power supply, and the i7-10700 processor, the best graphics card you can do is the GT 1030 DDR5 (DDR4 versions have half the gaming performance.)  It has roughly twice the gaming performance as the integrated Intel graphics.  I like the MSI card with fan the best.

Please open the case, and verify the wattage of the power supply (look for a label on the supply itself), and the PCIe power cable.  Also, which processor and how much memory do you have?

Thank you for the reply! I am away from home at the moment, and I don't have access to the desktop itself. The 260W I got from the specs listed by Lenovo itself, though. My model runs on an i7-10700 and has 16gb of RAM.

Please update when you get back - this system sells with 3 different power supplies - we want to be sure about what you have, and also the power cable connector.

It took me a bit longer than anticipated, but ended up taking another look under the hood. Power is definitely 260W, I have no idea what the PCIe situation is though.

I am posting one image of the slot, and one of the PSU. thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Thanks! GT 1030 should do what I need it for (ie play 2-3 year old games) and is definitely within my budget.

I am curious though: Would upgrading my PSU offer me more choices?

Absolutely, with the 310w power supply, a GTX 1650 DDR6 would be possible, with several times the gaming performance as a GT 1030.  But those cards and better, are horrendously expensive right now because of demand for graphics cards to mine bitcoins.  A 380w ps is also available.

Hmm most of the GT 1030s I found come with a minimum recommendation of 300W. Do you think I can still safely run them on 260W?
