SMART error message after a routine scan

2020-07-21, 1:09 AM

I received an error message after a hardware scan: Hardware scan has detected one or more failures. The error code I was given, and told to reference, is ST1000DX001-1CM162-931.5 GBs. In looking at the detail I noticed the two failures were in SMART Short Self Test and SMART Drive Self Test.

I have no idea what all this means, but I do want to know what to do to fix it.

Hello Leslie P and welcome to the Lenovo community forum,

Curious which Lenovo program and version number are you using for the hardware scan?

But a fault with S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) is not good and can indicate a failing hard drive and being that it is a Seagate drive I would download SeaTools to if the fault is real and if so use SeaTools to see it can help remedy the fault. If not than you should look into replacing the drive soon.

Quick link for download: SeaTools for Windows

Good suggestions above.  I also recommend backing up all your data now to a higher capacity USB drive to ensure you don't lose it.  The OS and applications can be replaced, user data can't.

I do not work for Lenovo. I do not respond to Private Messages for help, your questions should be posted in the appropriate forum where the information exchange may help others. If I helped you, click the 'Thumbs up' button, if solved, the 'Accept as solution'.
