error 80070490 (refuses Windows update since 18 dec 2008)

Since 18 december 2008 Windows Vista Home Premium refuses to update  (errorcode 80070490).  Google tells us that more people suffer this problem, the 18 december date is mentioned and the fact that Vista is preinstalled (no DVD available for reintallation/repair).

I'm afraid that this error occurs more often at Lenovo 3000 installations.  Does anyone has a solution or is Lenovo willing to supply one.

Hi,

 

My 3000 system did not include a CD or DVD to repair or restore Windows but it does have a hidden (normally) partition on the hard drive that contains the necessary files.

 

My system came with XP installed and a certificate to be used to upgrade to Vista when it became available, so your system is probably different from mine but it may have similar abilities.  You may wish to check into this.

 

On my system, repeatedly tapping Enter as the system boots accesses the repair/restore functions.
