lenovo ideacentre 720-18asu BIOS update takes forever

2021-01-15, 16:56 PM

I have a Lenovo Ideacentre 720-18asu desktop which I bought in 2019.

I attempted to update BIOS using the file on this page, https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds121422-bios-for-windows-10-32-bit-64-bit-ideacentre-720-18asu.

I followed the steps under "Flash Under Operating System." The Command Prompt window finished the update process, and the system seemed to reboot. The desktop is still running. It has been nearly 20 hours since the last step.

Do I need to wait longer? If not, what am I supposed to do?

Hello @sot232,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you mind posting a screenshot of the cmd so I can help out?

I'll wait for you to post.

Hope this helps.

Hello @Jack_Lenovo1,

I would love to post a screenshot of the cmd, but I can't even access that. My screen is black. All I know is that the power light is on, and the desktop is making a small noise.

I am afraid of forcing to shut down a computer because I heard it might damage my computer.

Thank you.

Hello @sot232,

Kindly post a photo of the screen that is on your machine's display at this time so we can determine how we can proceed.

I'll wait for your reply.

Hello @Jack_Lenovo1,

Although this picture doesn't show a flashing blue power light, the blue light keeps flashing.

This white light stays on.

Hitting any keyboard buttons and clicking any mouse buttons don't make things different.

Thank you.

Hello @sot232,

Sorry for the late reply.

Has there been any changes since we last interacted?

It is risky to interrupt the BIOS update without making sure you are covered by the warranty since this could brick the machine.
