"Fantom" Removable Disk(s)

2008-04-15, 16:00 PM
Hi, when I open COMPUTERS on my 3000 K-100 Desktop, I see icons for the "C" and "D" Drives (Partitions) along with the DVD RW Drive and "E", "F", "G", "H","I" and "J"  Removable Drives.
The "C" / "D" Hard Drive and DVD Drive came with the system but there are NO  "E", "F", "G", "H","I" or "J"  Removable Drives (I did not install them and they were not part of the Lenovo 3000 K100 system).
When I right click on one of these drives and click on the Safely Remove icon, I am able to remove these icons from my system but they keep popping up again.
I realize that this is a minor quirk and my assumption is that this has something to do with the UBS slots on the back of the system that I use to connect the printer, Wireless adapter,... appearently the 3000 K-100 recognizes / identifies these devices as Drives.
Any suggestions on how to permanetly remove these icons (that should be there in the first place)?
Thanks, Bob

Are the extra drives maybe the card reader slots?

"Fantom" Removable Disk(s)

I would have never thought of the card readers Andy since I use an XD Card and that is not one of the cards supported but I don't think that's what it is since there are 4 card readers and 6 "fantom drives". Very strange, I would have expected Lenovo to catch this si QA, I am sure that IBM would have not let it go out this way and if they did, they would have issued a fix right away.

I thought the K100 had an 8-in-1 card reader?
There is one easy way to check, open it up and disconnect the card reader cable and see what you've got when you start it again.

"Fantom" Removable Disk(s)

Hey ANdy, the Lenovo 3000 K-100, the one that I have that was manufactured 12/07, has 4 memory card slots.
This is this from the Lenovo Website:

Internal Flash Media Reader

This convenient media reader provides fast digital transfer for CompactFlash, MicroDrive, MemoryStick, SmartMedia, MultiMedia, and SecureDigital cards.

So the mystery continues
