Does Lenovo support Intel's Extreme Memory Profile (XMP)?

2017-02-06, 18:57 PM

I purchased a IdeaCentre 710-25ISH model 90FB0001US from a Bestbuy in store on Jan. '17. I took note of what was installed before looking for the RAM I want and fond two sticks of Ramaxel Technology 4GB DDR4-2400 part# RMUA5120MB86H9F-2400 and was in fact running in daul channel mode of 1200Mhz each as that what Piriform's Speccy showed me of which I have a screenshot below.

I didn't want wait to upgrade the RAM so two weeks later I purchased a four stick kit of G.SKILL Value 16GB (4 x 4GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200) Desktop Memory Model F4-2400C15Q-16GNT from Newegg. After installing the RAM I found them running in the standard 2133Mhz, than went on to learned a lot about XMP, that I would need to enable XMP in the BIOS, I checked this machine motherboard's Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) and don't see anything about XMP.

So as the subject title states "Does Lenovo support Intel's Extreme Memory Profile (XMP)?" how do I enable it and if not how's it possible this machine had from the factory (manufactured Nov. '16) enable XMP to have the thier RAM running at 2400Mhz? Also, who is Ramaxel Technology?

Hi EyeDeeNo,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the forum!

There was a new BIOS update released for your PC just prior to the new year (you can find it through the Lenovo Support page), it may be worth updating it and see if the option is then available. If not, then I doubt it's be supported.

Ramaxel Technology :]

thank you for your reply also thank you for the warm welcome to the forum. :smileyhappy:

You say check out the new BIOS update version FWKT65A release date 12‎/‎29‎/‎2016. Okay, that is all well and good but if what is the motherboard's BIOS now (version FWKT58A ~ date 9/5/2016), how was the OEM installed two sticks of Ramaxel running at 2400Mhz?? This is something I want to recreate/re-enable. It just irks me the RAM was 2400 and now the standard default of 2133 with no way to access what ever the factory did. I was told over the phone by an Lenovo support employee that neither BIOS reference anything to having XMP access or control.

Edit: Isn't kinda funny that Ramaxel Technology's site doesn't show any desktop memory DDR4 or as they might signify it DDRIIII products? Another thing I told over the phone by the Lenovo support employee was the computer was to come with Kingston Lenovo 03T7465 4GB DDR4 2133MHz Non ECC Memory RAM DIMM and not Ramaxel Technology 4GB DDR4-2400 part# RMUA5120MB86H9F-2400.

My apologies and thank you . :smileyindifferent:

Edit: Can getting 2400Mhz out of my four sticks of 2400Mhz certified G.Skill DDR4 be done manually? If so how would I go about doing so?

Edit2: I also would like to add that flashing a motherboard's BIOS is why I had to get this new PC. I had a Lenovo H430 i5-2320 (25581BU) tried to install an EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti but wouldn't recognize it and asked by EVGA and Lenovo support if I had tried flashing in the new BIOS, so I found the BIOS on the Lenovo support page downloaded it initiated the process and it did errase the ROM chip but didn't flash the new one... so wary of ever doing that again as I bricked the last PC.

I guess I was wrong about the RAM running 2400MHz but the Ramaxel sticks was rated for it.
