H50 - Wi-Fi Adapter Upgrade For Improved Performance Over Onboard Factory Wi-Fi

2016-10-28, 4:52 AM

Hello; I had my H50 Desktop Core i5, 8 GB RAM (I've added another 8 GB card), 1 TB HDD, Windows 10 Home 64 bit OS, Model 90B700EEUS, for almost a year with no major issues so far. I'd like to ask if someone know if there's a better performing device option for the factory installed wi-fi adapter in this pc, "realtek 8821ae wireless lan 802.11ac pci-e nic", and how to do the exchange or add on if any. Thanks in advance for your kind help on this.

I would probably just disable the onboard WiFi adapter via the BIOS, and purchase/install a PCI WiFi adapter instead, which will just plug into one of the standard PCI slots on your computer.    Just make sure what ever you buy comes comes with Windows 10 drivers and has good customer/technical support, because some of the cheaper no-name/off  brands are very flaky.

I have the same internal WiFi Adapter on my system as you do, and I have not had an issue with performance or range, but then my PC is not far from my WiFi router., and it easily keeps up with the 75Mbps speed from my current Internet provider.

Good Luck,

Hi JDGillis;

Thanks a lot for your prompt and detailed response. I'll carefully explore that option. Now I'm feeling more confident on what to look for out there.

Cheers/
