Need to replace power supply in Ideacentre H405 desktop

2016-07-15, 21:45 PM

The other day, my Lenovo IdeaCentre H405 desktop "died". It looks like the problem is the power supply (a 280W PC6001). As long as I'm getting a new power supply, I thought I might as well get one with more power, since I believe the one I have has been reported as being somewhat underpowered. Also, I might want to be able to power a more capable graphics card that handles dual-display well.

From "Googling" the PC6001, it looks like it's an ATX power supply. But, other than Max Power and ATX, I don't know what other specs to look for to make sure that a Power Supply is compatible. For example, on NewEgg.com, their selections also include: Modular, Main Connector (20pin, 20+4Pin, etc.), PCI-Express Connector, Haswell Support, +12V Railes, SATA Power Connector, CrossFire, SLI, PFC (Active, Passive, No), Fans (0, 1, 2, ...).

What do I need to look for to find a more powerful (400W?) replacement.

Thank you.

I replaced it with a 450W Antec VP450. It seems to work fine, but there's 1 thing I was wondering about:

The fan on the original power supply blew air out the back of the PC.

The fan on the VP450 instead blows air upward out of the main PC compartment into the power supply, and that air then ends up going out the back of the PC.

I would think that's likely OK. Is it?

Thank you.

That seems fine. The system fan should push all air out of the system. It's also a desktop, which doesn't overheat as easily as laptops.
