Upgrading PSU and graphics card on lenovo h50-50

[ Edited ]

Hello there!

I was wondering if it is possible to install, lets say a 450 - 500 W psu and upgrade the graphics card to something like a amd r7 260x or Nvidia gtx 750 ti in a lenovo h50-50. I think it said in the manual to only use parts from Lenovo, can this damage my computer or something?

Sorry if something's wrong, i'm new on the forum Smiley Happy

hi fidde090,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The System board Will support an r7 series electrically.

The thing with using Lenovo Parts only is that Some system board are only meant to work with the Parts allowed for it.

like for you system, this is the part list

You can find this list here

Not all system board are subjected to these limitation.

So I would strongly suggest to have a Graphics card that is not on this list tried out on you computer before purchasing the r7 series.

For the Power supply, This is not limited to lenovo parts list. As long as the PSU supports the port needed by the Motherboard and the Graphics card then it is good.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Thanks! So this is the list of everything that should work with my PC?

If so, then i wonder something. On the nvidia homepage, the specifications for the nvidia geforce gtx 745, that according to the manual should work with my PC, is needing 300W of power supply. The highest i can have in my pc according to the manual is 280W?

Re: Upgrading PSU and graphics card on lenovo h50-50

Hi,

About the PSU,

The only compatibility you need to watchout for for Lenovo System are the ff:

Size of the actual PSU if it will fit in the chassis

Connectors that connect to the motherboard

Connectors that can accommodate all the devices inside.

The Watt capability itself is not limited the higher the better.

What you saw on the manual is the highest PSU that Lenovo can provide with the unit per sale.

Thanks for the answers! Smiley Happy

So the manual only says the things that are in the computers from the beginning? So i can change the PSU and graphics card to anything as long as it fits in the chassi? For exampel a xfx 450W psu and an nvidia gtx 750 ti fits in my chassi, so it's completely safe to change to those components? Smiley Very Happy

Re: Upgrading PSU and graphics card on lenovo h50-50

hi,

For the PSU  Yes, It will only provide power to your system and some devices.

For the GPU No, Some users that tried replacing GPU that are not listed in the  Maintenance Manual were not able to make it work. Some Users said that some parts that are not listed worked fine.

So for the GPU as I have said earlier

So I would strongly suggest to have a Graphics card that is not on this list tried out on you computer before purchasing the r7 series. Not neccesarily try an r7 but try a GPU that's not on the list. if it worked then go for an R7 or better if you can try an r7 first prior to purchasing one.

Re: Upgrading PSU and graphics card on lenovo h50-50

Oh okay! I'll just stick with the standard PSU then, and maybe go for a nvidia gtx 745 (that one is on the list), because according to some test the 745 doesn't really need 300W as it says on nvidia homepage, the 280W that is in the default PSU should be enough!

Thank you for your help!

Re: Upgrading PSU and graphics card on lenovo h50-50

Hi I have the same question as well. The pc I bought is the serial model 90B70017US. I was wondering what power supply it has and what graphics card can it handle. I want it for low to mid range gaming like warframe and that's it.

Re: Upgrading PSU and graphics card on lenovo h50-50

Can I upgrade my PSU in my h50 to a 450 wattage and upgrade the graphic card to a nvidia GTX 760 or will my computer break.
