Ideapad 510 15" - Can the hard drive and/or RAM be upgraded in the Ideapad 510 15"?

2016-08-20, 6:03 AM

I'm considering the Ideapad 510 15" (Part Number 80SR0055CF).  i5-6200U, 4GB onboard RAM, 1TB 5400RPM hard drive.

Can I upgrade the RAM myself? I see some 510 models have 4GB onboard + a 4GB DIMM so I'm assuming that if I get the 4GB onboard they'll be an empty DIMM slot I could add RAM to, is that the case?  If so, what's the max memory I could add?

What about the hard drive, can it be upgraded/replaced?  At some point I would probably want to put in an SSD.

If someone could link to the hardware maintenance manual that would be really useful, then I could check these things myself.  I can't find the manual for this particular laptop.  Thank you!

Mod's Edit: System model added to the front of Subject line to improve visibility / clarity.

I edited the mod's edit because they tagged it as "510-15ISK" which I'm pretty sure is a Yoga, I'm looking at the Ideapad not the Yoga. I added a link to the product page for further clarity. Lenovo's product naming is confusing so I'm not sure.

Hi there, Biznath

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

As per the datasheet, the maximum memory supported is 12GB.

However you have feasibility to upgrade up to 12GB max / PC4-17000 2133MHz DDR4,

4GB memory soldered to system board, one 260-pin SO-DIMM socket.

Secondly, the maximum HDD that can be upgraded on ideapad510 is

HDD: 2.5-inch, 7.0 mm or 9.5 mm, SATA II/SATA III

SSD: 2.5-inch, 5.0 mm, SATA III

Please find the HMM for better understanding.

Update us how it goes.

Hi!

Can you please tell is one of this RAMs will suite this notebook:

http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/ideapad-510-%2815-inch%29/CT8904688

They have different Ranked (Single/Dual).

And if I can upgrade with both then if "Single Ranked" will be better here?
