710s Plus - Vibration through fingertips when plugged in

2017-06-05, 16:38 PM

Hi Lenovo

I've just noticed something strange happening with my 710S Plus 13 inch (it's about a month old, purchased from Lenovo's website in the UK).

When plugged into a regular power socket (I'm in the UK so I'm using the UK 3-pin plug),  as I slide my fingertips on the case (eg around the keyboard or touchpad) my fingers feel this weird sensation of vibration - as though they were brushing against rubber.

I've found some people experiencing the exact same with the MacBook Pro - see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1072370?tstart=0 .  I am experiencing the same thing they describe.

If I unplug, I don't feel it.  Furthermore, if I have enough points of contact with the case (eg the entire palm of my hand, or if it's resting on my lap), again I don't feel it.  But if it's plugged in and sitting on a hard table, it's quite noticeable through my fingers.

Please advise,

Thanks

James

Hello Jamescormack

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

Sounds like something may not be grounding the power properly.

Any chance you are able to test this with an alternate charger?

Also, Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.

(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)
1. Turn the unit off
2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter
3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds
4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter
5. Turn the unit on as normal

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Hi Krakken

Thanks for your response.

I do not have another charger, but I'm on warranty so maybe Lenovo could send me a new one to see if that fixes this issue?

I tried a static discharge as you instructed.  I unplugged the adapter, though the battery is not removable.  The power button is in the top right of the keyboard.  After turning the laptop off I held it for well over 30 seconds (I timed it); the laptop made a brief sound during that time (a bit like the fan blowing for a second or two) - not sure if that's part of the static discharge process.

Unfortunately the static discharge hasn't fixed or changed the vibration.

I think the 'vibration' feeling is stronger now than it was before, so I'm hoping to get this resolved soon.  What do you suggest?

Thanks

James

I do apologise for the late response James.

I would suggest that as you do not have an alternate charger to use, to contact Lenovo support, and they should be able to send you a replacement charger to try, or they may even offer some alternate troubleshooting as well.

Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.
