Edge 15 - Updating BIOS and warranty status--Need answer from Knowledgeable Lenovo employee

2015-08-17, 19:14 PM

After reading the latest news on the Lenovo LSE (Lenovo Service Engine) and suggested BIOS updates I need some clarification. Does updating your BIOS from a download on a Lenovo Support page specifically for one’s laptop invalidate one’s warranty? I assume not but I just want to know for sure. I have a Lenovo Edge 15. There is a BIOS update listed for my Edge 15 that just came out 8/12/15.

I read a quote in an article from The Guardian on the web stating that Lenovo encourages their users update their BIOS to the latest firmware: http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/aug/14/lenovo-service-engine-pre-installed-security-superfish   I just want to make sure that doing so does not invalidate the warranty.

I appreciate your answer.

Thanks.

No, it doesn't invalidate your warranty.

Is there any official clarification on this issue because Lenovo telephone support people seemed confused about this?
