Help Installing W10 - Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk

I just got my Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk on the mail today, bought it with freedos (I already have a retail w10 license I want to transfer to it). Last night I prepared my bootable w10 usb and tested it on my old laptop to verify it works. No problem.

I can't get it to work on the Lenovo, no matter what Bios settings I choose. I don't really mind if it's UEFI or Legacy at this point, I'm reinstalling next week when I get my new ssd disk, I just want to be able to get windows in for now.

My usb stick is formatted as fat32, with windows 10 64-bit, I got the ISO using the media creation tool from Microsoft, and put it into the usb with rufus.

At first, I was getting a winload.efi error (with either uefi, legacy, legacy first, uefi first and all variations you can think of). I redid the usb, this time just mounting the ISO file and copying the files manually. Now I'm getting winload.exe file might be damaged or missing.

The mystifying thing is that the installer boots just fine on my old asus laptop.

It's been years since the last time I did this, so I'm probably missing something obvious. Can anybody guide me on how to get the windows install screen to come up on this machine? Thank you in advance.

Re: Help Installing W10 - Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk

Hi VNat

Welcome to the Community Forums.

With secure boot disabled and boot mode on legacy (F10 to save) , try to review the steps for downloading the ISO and creating an installer with rufus GPTpartition scheme for UEFI (option 2).

You can use this guide for reference.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Re: Help Installing W10 - Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk

Thank you for taking the time to answer! I just got back from work. While I was there, I once again downloaded windows 10 with the media creation tool, this time directly to the usb. I just tested it and I get the efi error if I use UEFI (secure boot off) and winload.exe missing if I use Legacy.

I just went through your suggestion, there's one problem with doing that and it's precisely the only thing there I haven't been able to try so far. It asks to format the usb stick as NTFS, I have not been able to manage to do this. I read somewhere it would work if it was on performance mode but that did not work for me. It's the only usb drive I own, bought it specifically for this 2 days ago (16gb sandisk).

Is that a must? Can't I use fat32? Alternatively, do you have any idea why my pen drive refuses to be formatted as NTFS?

Re: Help Installing W10 - Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk

That usb stick is cursed, I may have tried every way there is to format it, it just won't take NTFS.

I got my brother to lend me an ancient one of his and it worked like a charm right away. W10 is now running.

It probably worked for the asus laptop because that one has bios set to UEFI.

I may have to bother you again in a couple of days when I get my ssd disk, I hope not. Thank you for your help. Smiley Happy
