Hi sara-abe,

Greetings.

For the replacement of the keyboard, since it goes with the Upper case assembly then follow the hardware manual steps here in page 51.  You can also review the video disassembly guide for your model here.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Hi spidey101,

Instructional manual shows upto a certain point of the disassembly, but how to access the keyboard which is hidden underneath the cover is not shown and is not very clear. Also the videos do not show the 81BH model disassembly. It shows the 80 model, where the keyboard is accessed from the top removing a bezel.

Your help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi sara-abe,

Greetings.

Replacing the keyboard would be replacing the entire upper case cover. As instructed from the hardware manual this would involve removing most part:

For access, remove these FRUs in order:
• “1010 Optical drive” on page 33
• “1020 Base cover” on page 34
• “1030 Battery pack” on page 37
• “1040 PCI Express Mini Card for wireless LAN” on page 39
• “1050 DIMM” on page 41
• “1060 Hard disk drive” on page 42
• “1070 Speakers” on page 44
• “1080 Fan assembly and Heat Sink assembly” on page 45
• “1090 ODD transfer board, backup battery and Fingerprint board” on page 49

It is recommended to get a service tech as it requires certain tools and skills to disassemble and reassemble back safely. I usually take time to review the manual and match it up to the model and take a video of the parts before and during the process if needed.

Regards

Re: Ideapad 320 15IBK Keyboard replacement instructions

Hi Spidey101,

My interest in accessing the keyboard is to replace it with a new one. But I came across the problem of separating bottom plastic plate that hides the keybord. The bottom plastic plate is permanently fused into top plate with melted plastic stand-offs and have no screws. The keyboard is sandwiched between the top and the bottom plastic plates.

My question is it possible to remove these melted plastic stand-offs and after replacing the keyboard, how do I reassemble. The top and bottom plates may not be secure if I break off the melted plastic stand-offs.

I did not find any screws that secure the top and the bottom plastic plates.

Your advise is very much appreciated.

Hi sara-abe,

Greetings.

They usually have the entire upper case with keyboard replace as a whole.

If you review the manual and video guide, there would be no keyboard removal steps rather the entire bezel/ upper case is being replaced. A DIY job may not even be stable once placed back.

Regards
