Ideapad 710S "Electric Shock" issue

2016-08-10, 7:11 AM

Hello,

Few days ago I bought a Lenovo IdeaPad 710S laptop with Intel I5 2.3GHz, 8GB and 256GB SSD.

When I power the laptop with its original power supply, and touch the laptop metal surface, I feel permanent "Electric Shocks" !!! (The laptop original power supply doesn't have a ground socket).

I have also a new Dell laptop with metal surface and there is no electric shocks with it.

Is it possilble that a 2016 Lenovo laptop will have an "Electric Shocks" issues ???

Thank you,

Alon

Hi there, Alon –

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Warning...  defective electrical installations can electrocute you!

To cover safety aspects please call a electrician to check your power outlets...

Maybe the ground connectors are not grounded properly.

If there is no ground system installed in your electric power installation (2 wires only),

Ask the electrician to try and interchange the L & N wires.

A faint electric tingling sensation while standing barefoot on a stone-floor and touching

Metal parts of electrical appliances may be annoying but is harmless to man and machine.

It could be avoided by wearing slippers if possible or place some sort of carpet or linoleum under the computer table to electrically insulate your feet from the floor.

Also, receiving an electric shock from your computer is not normal I would recommend you to contact Lenovo service center and report your findings. For more details, Schedule a Call-back for faster support.

Until then I would only use the computer when it is running on the battery then charge the battery when it is not in use.

Update us how it goes.

Thank you Shashi for your reply,

The electric power system in my home is fine and have no problem.

The Lenovo Power Supply doesn't have ground socket (2 pins only).

I have sent the laptop back to Lenovo Lab for inspection and will update soon.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community jcmorais !

This issue isn't "closed" by Lenovo.  Don't know where you've gotten that idea.  If you are experiencing an issue then I would recommend you contact Lenovo Support as was recommended in the Solution for this thread.

getting the same problem with my 710s plus.

Sent my laptop to the Singapore lenovo service centre.

They changed my motherboard.

After a whole month of repair and multiple calls to try and contact the service centre, the unit was returned to me yesterday.

Unfortunately... the issue didn't go away. Still getting electric shocks from the shiny exterior lining of my 710s plus when my power plug is plugged in.
