Ideapad 710s - How to remove back panel?

2016-06-17, 21:16 PM

I am having difficulty removing the back panel. The hardware guide says "Remove rubber. Remove screws". There are 9 visible screws. The hardware guide shows 13.

Some of the screws might be under the rubber. However, it provides no way to remove the rubber. It appears to be glued on so removing it will break the back panel.

Has anyone removed the backpanel of their 710s? If so, did you need to remove the rubber and if you did can you provide hints on how to do it without breaking it?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Please check out the link below for the Lenovo Training Video for the 710s model.  What is shown in the video regarding the back cover removal is different than what the Hardware Maintenance Manual shows.  I believe the problem you are having is releasing the plastic clips that hold the cover in place after the screws are removed.    Here is that video course for your reference.....

Hi mike2016 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

I have here the service video training guide for ideapad 710S Type 80SW , as 11 screws shows without any need to remove the rubber feet.  Would you able to get a captured shot on your model.

I noticed from the manual guide stating 13 screws with the additional of 2 screws near a vent where in the service training do not have. This maybe the case for other base cover variants depending on the region as noted in page 35 of the manual.

Would you have the machine model number  from the sticker or to check it from here . On the parts look up page also show specific base cover version we can take reference with.

Update us as soon as convenient.

Regards

Re: Ideapad 710s - How to remove back panel?

I looked at the training video titled "Lower Case Removal".

The issue is that the two screws above the vent I have no access to because it was covered with a rubber. The bottom panel is completely different in this area. It has been indented and a rubber strip placed there. If I remove the rubber strip, then the back panel will be ruined as it will no longer have its rubber strip which is industrial glued to the back, so I cannot just "snap it back" when I re-assemble.

So how can I remove the back panel for my model? I ordered the ideapad 710s in the US, which I assume is the standard model. Only 9 screws are accessible and not 11.

Thanks!

Hi mike2016 ,

Still trying to find a sample part number 5CB0L20776 Lower_Case W 80SW Silver for screw reference.

Not yet sure but usually in some disassembly i had where the screws are beneath those stickers.

Best to take a snapshot of those stickers for future need avaoid to ruin the print and a sturdy pin to map thru those stickers as on the manual and may not be beneath those rubber feet.

Would update as soon as I can verify the lower cover.

Regards

Mike2016, the rubber strip needs to be removed as there are two screw hidden under it.  Please watch this video on YouTube. At the 2:00 minute mark there is an explanation on how to access the internal components.  Here is that video for your reference........

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A81B4cyeg5A

If you remove the rubber strip carefully and keep the area clean while it is removed it should retain the adhesive so that it can be re-applied.  I've worked on other brands of laptops that had rubber feet that needed to be removed for dis-assembly and the re-application of the feet wasn't a problem. Naturally if you remove the rubber strip multiple times it will start to lose it adhesive qualities, but a 1 time removal you should be Ok.
