Ideapad Flex 14 specific keys not working

2016-11-25, 3:54 AM

Certain keys on the ideapad flex 14 quit working unexpectedly.   Keys identified as not working    z x c v m comma period Enter Shift key on the right side of the keyboard and the Delete key.

Could it be related to massive Windows 10 upgrade released in October? The keys stopped working shortly after the upgrade.  Been using the screen keyboard. Thanks for your help

Hi there, Beelm           -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Try updating the Chipset driver

You can also start by flushing out all static, remove battery and AC adaptor and hold down power button for about 15 seconds.

Update us how it goes.

Thanks for your assistance. I did the manual static flush and battery removal, no help. The link to chipset driver produced an error code. I will search for a chipset driver now.

Neither option has worked.  I did locate and download the chipset driver from the Lenovo download center, restart.  The same keys are not working.

Other ideas?  Thanks

Does the external keyboard & on screen keyboard produce the same problem? Have you tried to booting safe mode?

Thanks for the assistance.

The touch screen keyboard works fine.  Opening in safe mode did not help, same keys were not working using the hard keyboard in safe mode.

Other ideas?  Very frustrating and this laptop is less than 2yrs old I think.

This seems like a manufacturing defect with the keyboard. It may be worth trying to re-seat the ribbon cable underneath the keyboard. This is roughly equivalent to removing and replacing it. Please go through this HMM for better hardware understanding.

If it is under warranty I would recommend contacting Lenovo service centres and applying the normal phone techniques to get it replaced promptly.
