Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk GPU overheating

So I bought  Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk with GTX 950M 2GB DDR3 a couple weeks ago and whenever I try to play a game (any game, even from year 2009), my GPU starts overheating and when it reaches ~83C, it automatically downclocks itself to 405mhz. I tried to install drivers from scratch, both from OM and from Nvidia, and that didn't help me. I've also gone through a clean installation of Win 10, that didn't help either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk GPU overheating

Hi there, Kejsi -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Your CPU / GPU might be overheating and it's throttling down - this would cause your CPU GPU to operate in a low frequency. Try to monitor your CPU by using CoreTemp and your GPU by using GPU Shark orAfterburner.

If you get high temperatures, you can try to decrease the heat by:

  1. Using a good quality cooling pad that runs on high RPM or a better cooling in your room.
  2. Replacing the stock Thermal Interface Material with a good quality TIM likeNoctua NT-H1Tuniq TX-4, or Artic Silver 5.

Update us how it goes.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk GPU overheating

I've contacted Lenovo via e-mail and told them about my problem. I've also attached my temps and report from Lenovo Solution Center. They asked me to prepare my laptop for delivery to the nearest Service Provider for a closer look and eventual repair. We'll see how it goesCat Very Happy.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk GPU overheating

Got the same problem with my Ideapad 700 but unfortunately (I am littel mad on my self) laptop is after guarante. I am not a gamer type person and that wasnt prioryty for  me to looking how games working on it, but I also had that on my mind, that games doesnt works that good as they should. I have a chance to confront my ideapad 700 to cheaper computer with totaly worser parameters (new laptop but i5-7200U and GPU 940MX) and as we tested GTA V on same parameters my laptop did so much worser results that I was shamed. That moment give me to think and look for issue, and as i have checked the GPU thermal condition and Im little worred about it. Max temperature of GPU goes even to 100C. No wonder that games works not that good as I was thinking they will. Some advice? Is this normal for that model?
